Die mangelhafte deutsche Kenntnis der französischen
Vokalmusik betraf bis vor nicht langer Zeit
besonders auch das Schaffen von Komponisten
des 19. Jahrhunderts, von denen andere Werke
bis heute unverändert in Deutschland publikumswirksam
geblieben sind. Man braucht nur
an die Opern von Gounod, Saint-Saëns, Delibes
und Massenet, die Orgelmusik von Franck und
die Lieder von Fauré zu denken. Hier hat sich der
Verlag in hohem Maße engagiert, indem er vor
allem die geistliche Musik der Trias Gounod –
Franck – Fauré umfangmäßig in den Mittelpunkt
seines Schwerpunktes Frankreich stellt und damit
erstmals der Kirchenmusik- und Konzertpraxis
zugänglich macht.

Until recently, the lack of knowledge of French
vocal music in Germany referred especially to the
music of 19th-century composers, whose other
works have continued to find public appeal in
Germany. One need only think of the operas of
Gounod, Saint-Saëns, Delibes und Massenet, of
the organ music of Franck and of the songs of
Fauré. Carus has made a strong committment in
this area in that, above all, the sacred music of
the trio Gounod – Franck – Fauré has become, on
a large scale, a central part of our French music
program, and thus, for the first time it has been
made accessible for church and for the concert
hall.
