Event no. TUE13:00-17:00R1 How to fi nance wind energy
Strong wind is generally a good thing and, with the right technology, it can be transformed into
energy. Metaphorically speaking, a strong wind is blowing on the fi nancing front as well and is
presenting developers, manufacturers and service companies in the wind energy industry with big
challenges. Funding for renewable energy projects is still a sore point for many. Despite the incentives
provided to wind farm operators by the German government (e.g., fi xed feed-in tariffs), including for
offshore wind, the issue of funding remains an insurmountable obstacle.
At our event “How to fi nance wind energy”, we will discuss different ways of funding wind energy
projects including suggestions on how to structure your fi nancing. To ensure the best possible
assessment of wind energy fi nancing, we have invited several specialists from Ernst & Young* as
well as well-known external professionals in the fi eld of renewable energy to give presentations on
various aspects of the subject. Prof. Dahlhoff will also give an introduction to the current situation
regarding offshore wind energy projects. Mr. Gründel (BARD Holding GmbH) will provide an overview
of the BARD Group with its turn-key approach to building offshore wind farms such as the fi rst
commercial offshore wind farm “BARD Offshore 1”.
ever before, is to choose the best-matching technology and a strong supplier for the key electrical
drive-train components.
The presentation addresses criteria for a high performance, reliable and an overall risk mitigated
turbine design as well as trouble-free lifetime operation. Under these aspects, the pros and cons of
the high-, medium-, and low-speed PMG technology will be explained and the benefi ts of using
medium-voltage converters will be shown.
ABB has a unique portfolio of electrical drive-train products and a track record of successful installations
in on- and offshore wind turbines and many other demanding applications worldwide.
The presentation will outline business models for cooperation with international acting customers in
turbine development, volume production and lifetime service.
Event no. TUE14:00-15:00R3 advanced welding technology for high wall thickness SAW
transfering high-volume processes from pipelines to wind towers
The manufacturing of large diameter pipes and wind towers share a common process – the welding
of large diameter, high wall thickness steel plates while maintaining the mechanical properties of the
base material even in diffi cult climatic conditions.
However a typical large-diameter pipe mill produces 150 pipes a day, each of it 18 or 24 m long with
wall thicknesses up to 50 mm. Therefore the pipe industry has focussed early on high-speed welding
and advanced automation.
iSAM was instrumental in many of these developments including the 5-wire digital SAW welding
controller and the multi-layer digital seam tracking with adaptive welding procedures. With the ever
increasing demand for wind energy as well as the growing project sizes especially in the off-shore
market some of these technogies become technically and economically suitable for an industrial wind
tower production.
In this presentation we’ll show data from real-world projects including the manufacturing of the
world’s fi rst 44 mm single-pass ID/OD high pressure gas pipes and provide some ideas how the green
energy of the future can benefi t from technologies developed for the oil and gas industry.
Event no. WED14:00-15:00R3 Modern Power Module technology for wind turbine inverter with increased reliability
The continuously increasing part of renewable energy in the generation of electricity requires a huge
quantity of power semiconductors. Among the most cost effective renewable energy sources are the
wind power plants. Frequency converters constitute an important part and facilitate the grid compliant
power supply. Power semiconductors meet the requirements of this application with high
reliability and build the core of these converters. This paper includes the common topology of wind
power plants with double feed asynchronous generator as well as the mode of operation of the
frequency converter systems. The special focus towards power semiconductors is upon durability and
reliability.
Event no. WED10:00-11:00R4
10:00 – 10:30 | Wind energy in forested areas – tapping new potentials onshore
Areas of managed forests hold a wind energy potential that has not yet been utilized on a large
scale. TÜV SÜD experts have recently surveyed several planned wind farm sites in forested areas.
Because tree heights, canopy diameters and the density of the forest vary, a detailed site assessment
is necessary, including detailed modelling of wind and turbulence conditions. Furthermore, attention
must be paid to seasonal changes, foliage, possible pest infestation and thermal properties of the
forest. Only then is it possible to create a reliable foundation of solid data that allows the deduction
of optimal hub heights and distances between turbines.
Speaker: Thomas Arnold – TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH, Wind Cert Services
10:30 – 10:55 | Technical due diligence – a crucial prerequisite for a successful
wind farm project
The further the realisation of a wind farm project progresses, the more elaborate and complicated
the network of documents and contracts gets, on which it is based. Besides proving the suitability
and profi tability of the selected wind farm site, these documents regulate the cooperation of the
parties involved in the project. It is therefore crucial that the buyer of the project reviews and analyses
the entire documentation regarding completeness, accuracy, reliability and quality in order to assess
the progress of the project and hence also its value. This paper will discuss the most important issues
and aspects of a wind farm project which must be included in a technical due diligence.
ArmaFORM PET AC green is another milestone, offering a truly recyclable product to an industry that
aims to go green. Fully recyclable PET structural core foam produced with recycled PET bottles
(‘cradle-to-cradle’ product).
Today, extruded PET core materials are based on a virgin raw material. For ArmaFORM PET AC green,
Armacell goes one step further and uses ‘post-consumer’ PET fl akes (recycled PET bottles). In
addition, Armacell recycles its own scrap by mixing it back into the production. The result is a
recyclable product ‘from cradle-to-cradle’. At the same time, important technical parameters such
as shear elongation and compression modulus have been kept at their usual high level.
Use of Wind energy in Morocco – Perspectives in Morocco – Morocco, the gate to
North Africa
Morocco’s share of renewable energy will manifold within the next ten years, various projects for the
integration of several GW of RE generation capacity into the electricity grid are on their way. Besides
solar energy the country, which covers 96% of its energy demand by imports, focuses on the use of
wind energy. For the increased use of wind energy the Moroccan government initiated a program to
install one GW of wind turbine capacity. Furthermore there are serious considerations to issue tenders
for a further installment of two GW capacity of wind energy. With a shoreline of more than 3.500
kilometers Morocco offers most favorable conditions for the installment of wind turbines. Throughout
the southern shoreline the average wind speeds exceed 8m/s at many sites because of the north
Atlantic Trade Wind. The wind conditions in the North West as well as at exposed spots of the
Mediterranean coast are excellent as well. The federal country of Schleswig Holstein – represented
through the Investitionsbank Schleswig Holstein- carries out a comprehensive project to support the
Kingdom of Morocco in its ambitious plans to support the use of renewable energies. Within the
project several activities are planned to develop services, support academic institutions, gather and
present basic data about the wind potentials through the development of regional wind atlases as
well as networking of actors from Morocco and Schleswig Holstein.
The event will give an overview over the actual development in the renewable energy sector and
appear to be properly addressed to secure project fi nance. Insurance is the one part: Fair risk
allocation between contract partners is the other one. Different country regulations have to be
considered. To neglect this can lead to increasing costs during construction as well as during
operation. Compared to the home market, premium levels often differ by factor 10. Same applies to
offshore wind energy projects but with much stronger consequences. Marsh will show examples of
special challenges and their solutions.
Event no. THU10:00-12:00R4 Das bwm-Composite-Production-System
50
1. Begrüßung
Hans-Jürgen Schönert – bwm
Windkraftnutzung in Deutschland
UK Offshore wind energy reaches 1GW (www.bwea.com, Friday 23 April 2010)
The landmark fi rst gigawatt (GW) of installed offshore UK wind energy capacity has been reached
this week as two wind farms off the coast of Britain began generating electricity: Robin Rigg
operated by EON and Gunfl eet Sands operated by DONG Energy. One GW, now comprising of 11
wind farms, or 336 installed wind turbines, cements UK’s world-wide lead in the sector. Currently,
there are over 40GW of offshore wind farms at various stages of development, with over 4GW in
construction or with planning consent.
Event no. FRI16:00-17:00R1 power.up – Ertragsteigerung durch aerodynamische Modifi zierungen an Rotorblättern
Dicke umfassen.
Referent: Dr.-Ing.habil Djordje Dobi – Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services GmbH, Erneuerbare
Energien Zertifi zierung, Hamburg
13.20 Uhr | „Wind of change“ – Gesenkschmiedestücke: Vom Massenprodukt zur
Prozesskette aufgezeigt.
D66 WINDTEST Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog GmbH:
Event no. FRI10:00-11:00R4 Electro magnetic compatibility (EMC) on wind turbines
Unwanted electromagnetic disturbances from wind turbines can disturb other electrical devices, radio
services or even human beings. On the other hand wind turbines can be disturbed by other electrical
devices, which leads to malfunction and, hence, losses . So, EMC is not only an essential part of the
European product safety concept but also in the vital interest of turbine manufacturers and operators.
The EMC-Directive 2004/108/EC and the new “Guide for the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC” (released
on 2010-02-08) regulate the EMC requirements in the European Union on mobile and fi xed
installations. The compliance with these European directives is a necessary part within the CE
declaration process. WINDTEST Kaiser- Wilhelm- Koog GmbH already gained experience with
EMC-measurements on wind turbines in the fi eld. Measurements show that environmental infl uences
like humidity, air pressure and temperature infl uence the results and thus, need to be taken into
account in order to evaluate the electromagnetic emissions of wind turbines. As an EMC product
standard for wind turbines is not yet available, the generic standards are used. However, these
generic standards are not specifi c enough for comparable measurement results, so that a type
approval is not possible. Based on measurements, which have been carried out by WINDTEST and its
partner, the presentation develops an approach to EMC measurements. Starting with the relevant
standards and guidelines for electromagnetic emissions on the European level, and describing the
fi ndings, which have been detected in real EMC measurement which have been carried out, the
presentation leads to conclusions which, in the opinion of the authors, need to be taken into account
in further measurement guidelines for EMC on wind turbines.
Windkraftgetriebe unterliegen starken Belastungen.
starken Branche arbeiten. Der deutsche Mittelstand sieht diese
Zukunftsbranche zurzeit als besonderen Motor der deutschen
Wirtschaft, als Zugpferd der künftigen wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung.
Windcareer – the successful job fair
at HUSUM WindEnergy 2010
See your future employer! See your future employee!
Date: 25 September 2010
Venue: HUSUM WindEnergy Congress Centre
Admission to HUSUM WindEnergy and the Windcareer job fair
for school pupils, students, and jobseekers only € 8.00
The renewable energy sector is a reliable job motor. According to a
report by the German environment ministry, the industry employed
300,500 people last year, with 22,500 people starting new jobs in
the industry in 2009 alone. The wind energy sector, with around
90,000 jobs in Germany, is an important sector for the future
economy that offers a wide variety of job prospects. Whether with
manufacturers, supplier companies or service providers – the wind
energy industry is booming, and many new business activities are
being created particularly in the offshore sector. There is still a
great need for qualifi ed staff in the renewable energy sector,
despite the economic crisis: according to a survey by Wissenschaftsladen
Bonn, in the fi rst quarter of 2009 the number of job
vacancies rose 25 percent over the previous year. Businesses in the
renewable energy sector will double their number of employees in
the next ten years, bringing the number of people working in this
successful sector to over 600,000. German medium-sized businesses
currently see this sunrise industry as a special motor for
the German economy, the locomotive for future economic
development.
Reason enough for HUSUM WindEnergy to use its Windcareer
job fair on 25 September 2010 to offer a special opportunity to
bring prospective employers and employees together within the
professional framework of a major trade fair. This is where qualifi ed
applicants can meet their future employers.
Over 30 large companies will be exhibiting at Windcareer on
25. September with special job fair stands in the congress centre.
Vestas Deutschland GmbH sponsors job fair:
Marie-Louise Bornemann, Vice President People & Culture CEU of
Vestas Deutschland GmbH.
„The Windcareer job fair is an ideal opportunity for us to continue
to expand our good network, and to talk to potential employees.
Vestas has a global reputation for being a future-oriented,
attractive employer, and we look forward to having the opportunity
to further develop our good image at Windcareer.“
