EditorialLeistungsfähige Produktions- und Logistiksysteme sind und bleibenauch zukünftig als tragende Säulen für eine moderne Volkswirtschaftwie Europa unverzichtbar, was sich gerade in den letzten Jahrengezeigt hat. Sowohl die in den Bereichen Produktion und Logistiktätigen Unternehmen als auch die dort tätigen Forschungseinrichtungenmüssen sich deshalb stets neuen Anforderungen stellen, umeine Spitzenposition auf dem Weltmarkt zu halten.Die Entwicklung und Anwendung neuer Technologien (u. a. Internetder Dinge) und intelligenter Systeme (u. a. Cyber-Physische Systeme)führen zukünftig zu einer zunehmenden Integration von realer undvirtueller Welt, was zu einem massiven Wandel heutiger ProduktionsundLogistikprozesse und -systeme führen wird. Diese Informatisierungklassischer Industrien wie Produktion und Logistik ist Ziel derim Rahmen der Hightech-Strategie der Bundesregierung gefördertenInitiative Industrie 4.0. Aufbauend auf langjährige Forschungsaktivitätenim Bereich der Selbststeuerung in der Logistik hat das BIBAin dem Projekt „Cyber-Physische Produktionssysteme“ (CyProS) dieRolle eines Kompetenz- und Transferzentrums für Cyber-PhysischeSysteme in der Logistik übernommen.Die Erarbeitung und der Transfer von Erkenntnissen aus GrundlagenundVerbundforschung in die Industrie und daraus resultierend dieKonzeption und Entwicklung neuer Produktions- und Logistiksystemehatten und haben einen hohen Anteil an der Leistungserbringungdes Instituts.Das BIBA hat auch im zurückliegenden Jahr 2012 sowohl regionalund national, als auch international seine Forschungs- und Transferaktivitätenin den Bereichen Produktion und Logistik weiter ausbauenkönnen. Mit seinen aktuellen Forschungsthemen trägt das BIBAnicht nur zur Entwicklung des Forschungsverbundes LogDynamicsan der Universität Bremen, sondern auch zur Weiterentwicklung desLogistikstandortes Bremen bei.Ein besonderer Höhepunkt für den Wissenschaftsstandort Bremenim Jahr 2012 war die Auszeichnung der Universität Bremen im Rahmender Exzellenzinitiative der DFG. Als Forschungsinstitut an derUniversität Bremen und mit engen Bindungen zur Universität wirddas BIBA die Umsetzung des Zukunftskonzepts „Ambitioniert undagil“ der Universität Bremen aktiv unterstützen und mit seiner Arbeithelfen den Wissenschaftsschwerpunkt Logistik der Universität weiterauszubauen.Zum 1. September 2012 hat mein langjähriger Kollege ProfessorDr.-Ing. Bernd Scholz-Reiter das Amt des Rektors an der UniversitätBremen angetreten. Gleichzeitig ist er aus der Institutsleitung desBIBA ausgeschieden. Wir wünschen Herrn Scholz-Reiter in seinerneuen Wirkungsstätte und bei der Umsetzung des Zukunftskonzeptesder Universität Bremen alles Gute und viel Erfolg.Seit nunmehr über 30 Jahren ist das BIBA als zuverlässiger Partnervon Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik für hohe Fachkompetenzund hohe Qualität bekannt. Diese Zuverlässigkeit ist nur mit hochmotivierten und kompetenten Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiternmöglich, denen ich an dieser Stelle für ihre engagierte Arbeit im BIBAdanken möchte.Bei allen Unterstützern, Auftraggebern, Fördergebern und Kooperationspartnernmöchte ich mich an dieser Stelle für das in unsgesetzte Vertrauen herzlich bedanken und freue mich auf die weitereerfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit Ihnen.Wie in den vergangenen Jahren liefern wir Ihnen mit dem vorliegendenJahresbericht einen Überblick über unsere laufendenForschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten und informieren Sie ausunterschiedlicher Perspektive über aktuelle Produkt- und Prozessinnovationenin Produktion und Logistik. Klaus-Dieter ThobenIn recent years it has been especially evident that efficient productionand logistics systems are, and will continue to be, the essentialsupporting pillars for a modern national economy like Europe.Companies, as well as research facilities, operating in the fields ofproduction and logistics constantly have to meet new demands inorder to maintain a leading position in the global market.In the future the development and application of new technologies(e.g. internet of things) and intelligent systems (e.g. cyber-physicalsystems) will lead to the increasing integration of real and virtualworlds, which will lead to a huge change in todays production andlogistics processes and systems. This computerization of classicalindustries, such as production and logistics, is the goal within thehightech strategy of the initiative industry 4.0 supported by theFederal Government. Based on the many years of research activitiesin the area of automation within logistics, BIBA has adopted the roleof a competence and transfer centre for cyber-physical systems inlogistics for the project Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CyProS).The development and transfer of knowledge, from basic and collaborativeresearch to the industry, and the resulting concepts anddevelopment of new production and logistics systems have played,and still play, a large part in the services provided by the institute.In the past year (2012) BIBA was again able to further expandits regional and national, as well as its international, research andtransfer activities in the fields of production and logistics. With itscurrent research topics, BIBA not only contributes to the developmentof the research collaboration LogDynamics at the University ofBremen, but also to the further development of Bremen as a logisticslocation.A special highlight for the science and research location of Bremenin the year 2012 was the award given to the University of Bremenas part of the excellence inititiative of the DFG (German ResearchFoundation). As a research institute at the University of Bremen, andhaving a close relationship to the latter, BIBA will actively supportthe implementation of the future concept “Ambitious and Agile“at the University of Bremen, and also help to further develop thescientific focus of logistics at the university.As of the 1st September 2012 my longstanding colleague Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Scholz-Reiter has taken over the position of Principal atthe University of Bremen. At the same time he retired as manager ofthe BIBA institute. We wish Mr. Scholz-Reiter all the best and muchsuccess in his new position and at the implementation of the futureconcept at the University of Bremen.BIBA has been known for its high level of expertise and quality as areliable partner of science, economy and politicsfor over 30 years.
