Dear Friends,
On behalf of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, it is my great pleasure to welcome all the
teams, officials, and supporters who are here to experience the IWRF 2018 World Championship
Qualification Tournament.
Staging a successful event of this level would not be possible without the dedicated effort of an entire
team. I offer thanks to the Swiss Paraplegic Centre, Wheelchair Sports Switzerland, and the Local
Organizing Committee for making this event possible. I also want to recognize the numerous sponsors,
all who have generously provided their time, energy, and financial support. Our sport could not have
achieved the growth and success that it has without their commitment.
It’s exciting and appropriate that this competition is being held at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil,
as this is where the sport’s first World Championship took place in 1995. Since then, we have enjoyed
tremendous growth, and ours is now a Paralympic sport that is played in more than thirty‐five countries.
Eight of those nations National teams have traveled here in hopes of earning one of the remaining four
spots at the GIO 2018 IWRF World Championship in Sydney, Australia this August.
The coming days hold the promise of a fantastic sporting experience for all who have made the trip to
Nottwil, as well as great viewing for those who will be watching online around the world. To the teams
from Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, South Korea and the host nation
Switzerland, I wish each of you the very best in your quest for a successful tournament.
Play hard, compete clean, and represent your country and sport with skill, strength and pride.
Let the Games Begin!
Yours in Sport,
