2017 fand das erste Profiturnier <strong>Oktoberfest</strong><br />
<strong>7s</strong> im Münchner Olympiastadion statt.<br />
Australien konnte sich im Finale gegen<br />
Olympiasieger Fidschi durchsetzen. Doch<br />
das Turnier im olympischen Siebener-Rugby<br />
hat eine viel längere Geschichte. Bereits<br />
seit 40 Jahren wird in der Bayern-Metropole<br />
zur Wiesn-Zeit der <strong>Oktoberfest</strong>-<strong>7s</strong>-Titel<br />
ausgespielt, anfangs nur unter Amateuren,<br />
aber seit jeher war das Teilnehmer-Feld so<br />
international, wie die Wiesn selbst.<br />
Mittlerweile spielen die Amateure das<br />
Classics-Turnier unweit der traditionsreichen<br />
Münchner Arena aus. Das Endspiel<br />
wird aber auch dieses Mal direkt im Olympiastadion<br />
zwischen den Profi-Matches der<br />
<strong>Oktoberfest</strong> <strong>7s</strong> ausgetragen.<br />
Die Idee, die weltbesten Teams für ein<br />
Profi-Turnier nach München zu holen, geht<br />
auf eine Gruppe deutscher Geschäftsleute<br />
um Mathias Entenmann zurück, die alle<br />
einst selbst für Deutschland Rugby spielten.<br />
Dank ihnen hat Deutschland nun ein Rugby-Turnier<br />
auf Weltklasse-Niveau.<br />

tournament at the iconic Munich Olympic<br />
Stadium. Australia crowned themselves<br />
champions with a surprise victory in the<br />
final over Olympic Gold Medallists Fiji.<br />
However, Sevens Rugby during <strong>Oktoberfest</strong><br />
has a much longer tradition. Exactly<br />
40 years ago, the very first <strong>Oktoberfest</strong> <strong>7s</strong><br />
amateur tournament was held in the city<br />
of Munich during the world famous beer<br />
fest. From the get-go, the tournament was<br />
as international, as the <strong>Oktoberfest</strong> itself.<br />
The amateur tournament still exists today<br />
and is now played as the <strong>Oktoberfest</strong> <strong>7s</strong><br />
Classics just a stone’s throw away from the<br />
Olympic Stadium in plain sight of the impressive<br />
arena, where the final of the Classics<br />
will be held. The idea of bringing the<br />
world’s best international Sevens teams to<br />
Germany goes back to a group of German<br />
business men led by Mathias Entenmann,<br />
who all played for the German national<br />
team. Thanks to them, Germany now has a<br />
world-class Rugby tournament.<br />
