In her role as the Executive Director of Volunteer MBC, the Volunteer Centre for the Peel Region dedicated to connecting, serving and helping people. In that capacity, she has been a board member and Chair of Caledon Community Services since 2005. She loves inspiring people by sharing how she found her purpose in life through volunteerism and is a member of the United Way Speakers Bureau. Baking/cooking are passions she uses to make people feel good. Diane Kalenchuk and her family have been a part of the Mississauga landscape for over 40 years. Carlana Sdao Community Leader As a young, recently married Teacher in Toronto, Carlanna Sdao decided she would take on another adventure – becoming a business owner as a Tim Hortons franchisee in the small, but growing town of Milton Ontario some 30 years ago. Carlanna’s goal was to become a business leader and role model in her community. Carlanna, and her husband Diego, first joined the Milton Chamber of Commerce, establishing relationships with other like-minded business people. As Carlanna grew her business experience, she became aware of other ventures in Milton that required support, volunteers, planners, and organizers. Some of these numerous organizations include Community Living North Halton, the Bob Rumball Association, the Darling Home for Kids, the Milton District Hospital, Milton Good Neighbours Community Clean-Up Day, and the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts. Especially close to Carlanna’s heart was the need to keep working with children – Carlanna became an Ambassador to the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation, working closely with Principles and Teachers in order to send economically disadvantaged Children to one of Tim Hortons numerous camps across Canada and the US every year. Carlanna continues to work closely with the Milton District Hospital and the Italian Canadian Club of Milton and hopes to see Milton continue to be a great place to live and work. Ellen Timms Community Service Ellen Timms, General Manager, Port Credit BIA Ellen has been a driving force as Port Credit BIA’s General Manager since January 2001 but her involvement with the association began much earlier than that. In 1986 she launched a children’s retail shop and quickly came to realize that part of the recipe for success would be a thriving community. She spent many of the next 14 years on the PCBIA board of management in a variety of positions including Chair and Promotions Chair. She took a year off after selling her business in 1999 before assuming the staff role of General Manager. She will tell you that her greatest professional asset is her past experience as an entrepreneur. As General Manager, Ellen duties include working with a volunteer board to oversee the beautification and marketing of Port Credit, liaising with community groups, special events organizations and the Municipality. Heritage and culture play a large part in the PCBIA’s animation of Port Credit.
