GHE – the medical technology network
The GHE is a healthcare association which represents and promotes
the interests of approx. 50 German medical technology
companies. The members span a vast array of products and services.
Starting with stethoscopes through CT equipment to hospital
IT, suppliers from all product segments are represented in the
German Healthcare Export Group. Together the members have
the knowledge and experience to provide a hospital with everything
needed.
A strong association
In 1991, the GHE was founded under the name of “German
Community of Interest for the Export of Pharmaceutical, Laboratory,
Dental and Medical Technology”. At that time - which coincided
with the Second Gulf War – information coming from the
Near East was extremely sparse, and it was this circumstance that
inspired Heinz-Jürgen Witzke (“Beta Verlag”) and Udo Pawelka
(then “Sartorius AG”) to organise a group of companies that focused
exclusively international exports. “We felt that we were not
receiving sufficient support from German politics, and therefore
wanted to make a beginning out of us ourselves, so we organized
a self-help group as it were”, explains Witzke, who is today the
Honorary Chairman of the German Healthcare Export Group. It
didn’t take long for the idea of an export forum to take hold and
for leading international companies, such as B. Braun, Eppendorf,
Atmos and Dräger, to join the Group as founding members.

Membership structure
Among the approx. 50 member companies, global players like
Siemens Medical Solutions, B. Braun and Dräger Medical as well as
medium-scale enterprises like Meiko, Tunstall or seca are to be
found. The more different the sizes of enterprises, the more varied
the product range: The greater part of the GHE companies are
active in electrical and medical technology, followed by those
dealing with and manufacturing medical commodities and expendable
items, physiotherapy, orthopaedics, laboratory processing,
services and publications. Besides, areas like rescue equipment,
medicine for emergency purposes, diagnostic products, IT
and communication technology are also represented in the GHE.
Altogether the German Healthcare Export Group stands for about
80 per cent of the German export volume in medical technology.
Germany is much in international demand: Alongside the US and
Japan, it belongs to the group of leading global providers.
Benefits for customers
The GHE bundles the variety of products and services offered by
the members in a widespread portfolio which meets all medical
needs.
International clients contact the central GHE bureau in Bonn for
any concerns. Here the prospect’s request is directly forwarded to
the particular member – or when related to collaborative projects
to all involved members. The advantage for the customers is obvious:
rapid, competent consultation and assistance in all matters of
medical equipment.
From the beginning, organising services designated to serve clients
needs more effectively. And efficiency has been the main
goal of the GHE. Thanks to the big pool of know-how, that symbolises
the GHE, health care export partners can be found by customers.

Marketing & communication:
Showing our colours internationally
Since its foundation, the GHE has been present at important national
and international trade fairs. For years, the GHE has been
occupying a large booth with an adjacent lounge at MEDICA.
Moreover, the GHE has been appearing at the Arab Health in Dubai
since its establishment. Visits of delegations to maintain existing
contacts or to build up new ones in the programme are very
common. The last delegation trip took place in Cairo in the autumn
of 2010.
The GHE introduces itself on www.gheg.de. There you can find
recent news from the individual member firms, information on the
organisation, members of the Board, advisory bodies and contact
persons of particular companies.
Current press releases are provided for download in the “press”
section. Profound graphics to facts, for instance sales figures, business
sectors, subsidiaries, employees or export regions complement
the range of information.
