There is a new ministry in town! “The Green Meadows
Gospel Music Association”. It is our desire to see a revival of
gospel music ministries back in our churches and public
assemblies. It seems that in the past few years we have
gotten away from having gospel singings in those areas.
Gospel music has its place in worship. When gospel music
is used for glorifying God and getting the word out through
song it reaches people and softens the hearts of those that
may never attend a regular church service. We are hoping and
praying that Green Meadows Gospel Music Association will
help get past some of the barriers that have been keeping the
essential song ministries out of the picture.
• Green Meadows Gospel Music Association is a group
designed to connect gospel singing ministries with churches
and other organizations that will promote the spreading of the
Gospel through gospel music and song.
• Our group is presently providing memberships for
quartets, soloist, duets, trios, and other types of gospel groups
of different sizes.
• Our focus is to declare the gospel of the Lord Jesus
Christ through song ministries.
• In the future we will be planning Spring and Fall
singing conventions.
Green Meadows Gospel Music Association has a group
page on Facebook that can be viewed and a place for all that
is interested in this ministry to join the group. Churches and
other gospel music promoting organizations are encouraged to
view our online directory of groups and soloist. We also have
a directory of Christian recording studios and music stores.
This group is designed for the glory of God. We are praying
that it will be a blessing to everyone that becomes part of it.
In a world filled with confusion and economic problems we
need ministries that are wholesome and evangelistic. Green
Meadows Gospel Music Association will promote groups that
will get the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ out through song.
The GMGMA is a nonprofit non-denominational
Christian group consisting of local gospel groups and soloists
from the Kentucky, and Tennessee region. As an association,
our main objective is to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in
all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your

Sherrards arrive in China

On Tuesday, August 30th, we landed at the Beijing International
airport. Already our children Samuel Calvin (7),
Mary Grace (5), and Jacob Paul (1), were making friends,
and when we deplaned our newest friends wanted their pictures
taken with them. From the airport, our driver took us on a ride
we won’t soon forget to our final destination at Tianjin University.
I think he won the race, as there was no one he didn’t pass,
cut off, or run off the road. There didn’t seem to be any rules to
driving, or if there was, everyone drove with complete disregard
of them.
When we landed the smog was so thick it was hard to breath,
but with the change in season in Tianjin, the wind has greatly improved
the air quality. Another characteristic of China is the stark
contrast between the old and the new. For example, on our way
to our apartment we drove past a modern skyscraper and just
two blocks down the busy eight lane city street was a dirt road
where a man was butchering a pig in the open air. Keep in mind
this is one of the most modern cities in China with well over three
million people.
Most of the small struggles we face are in our 5th floor apartment
which has no elevator. The tap water is not safe to drink, so
we pay to use a bottled water dispenser and have to be very careful
in how we prepare our food. Our refrigerator doesn’t work,
and we have only one working burner on our stove top. The
Pam, your magazines have made it all the way over to China. Attached are
the pictures to prove it. The photo contains a large stone monument and a
modern looking building in the background. This picture is from the heart of
the Tianjin University Campus, and I thought it captured how the old and
the new are right next to each other over here. It’s kind of odd but I’ll never
forget the day we landed when the driver passed this brand new modern
building, and then a block or two down the street was this dirt road where a
guy was butchering a pig out in the open air. It’s such an extreme contrast.
single biggest blessing is the school’s cafeteria system. The food
is comparatively safe, and the price is cheaper than cooking at
home.
Our greatest witnessing tool has been our children, especially
the “blonde girl” and the “cute baby”. In fact, I’m simply
known as the father of the children. That’s become my Chinese
name. Everyone loves Mary and Jake, and they clamor to have
their pictures made with them. Our children are very charming
and outgoing, so it’s made many wonderful opportunities for us
to meet folks and begin friendly relationships.
Our classes have started and both Staci and I are constantly
in motion. Combined, we have over 770 students plus our three
children. I’ll speak more about our classes in our next installment,
including some positive feedback I’ve already received.
Regarding our children, we can’t afford private schools and since
the public schools will not make any accommodations for our
children (who don’t speak the language), we are homeschooling
them. Homeschooling would be more manageable if we could
hire someone to help us shop for necessities, watch Jake, do laundry,
and clean the house. Our students have to wash their clothes
by hand in their dorm rooms, so we have it easy by comparison,
and the Chinese people are very warm and hospitable to us.
