The Northwest Chapter Safari Club International

I hope everyone had a great hunting season this year and
that you are already planning for next season. I had a great
year and between Saskatchewan, Wyoming, Colorado and
Washington I was able to take two bull elk, two Deer and two
antelope.
Congratulations are in order for some region one
chapter accomplishments. The Central Washington Chapter
has won the Diamond Conservation Award for 2011 for their
tremendous efforts to reintroduce antelope back into the state.
They have worked very hard to make this happen and thanks
to them and others antelope once again roam the hills of
Washington. Only one Diamond Conservation award is given
each year. It is the highest award presented to any chapter
and Central Washington SCI is very deserving, well done!
Congratulations also to the Northwest Chapter and
Mike Skinner for winning the best web page award in category
three. That happens to be the biggest category with the
toughest competition, and Mike and the chapter is very deserving
as well.
These awards will be presented to the chapters during
the Wednesday night dinner event February 1st at the National
Convention in Las Vegas and will include the Regional
Representative of the year award that I have won. This award
is presented to me but it really belongs to the entire region.
The interaction, cooperation and camaraderie shared throughout
the entire Region One is second to none. I feel it is a privilege
to represent and work with so many really great friends
and SCI supporters.
Lastly as most of you know I was elected to the SCI
National Executive Committee as a vice president at the May
board meeting in Washington D.C. This position brings along
a few extra duties to help fill my idle time!

Region #1 banquet season is getting into full swing. By the
time you read this, Central Washington Chapter’s banquet
(December 03) will be over. I plan to be there again this year.
The Northwest SCI Chapter and the Sportsmen for
Conservation Foundation (February 24-25) will be at a new
location this year. They will be at the Seattle Hilton Airport
Conference Center directly across the street from the airport.
This will be a two day event and will feature Jim and Louise
Shockey as their guest speaker.
Inland Empire Chapter’s banquet will be held at the
Mirabeau Park Hotel in Spokane on February 11 th. They will
Feature Mike Rogers Jr. as their guest. Mike is the producer of
SCI’s Expedition Safari TV show.
I will be at that banquet as well as the Seattle Puget
Sound Banquet. Their banquet will again be a two day event
held February 17 th and 18 th at the Bellevue Meydenbauer Center.
They partner with the Wild Sheep Foundation, WWC, and
the Seattle Sportsmen Conservation Foundation, all of whom
will be at this two day event.
The Southwest Washington Chapter has gone all out
this year. Their banquet will feature LT/Colonel Oliver North
USMC (RET) as their speaker. They are expecting a huge
crowd this year at the Vancouver Hilton Convention Center
on May 5 th.
The Columbia Basin Chapter will meet at the Red
Lion in Pasco on February 11 th for their annual banquet and
fundraiser. Their banquet has gotten bigger and better each
year, try to attend if at all possible and make it even better by
you being there.
I have not gotten any date or location for the Pacific
Rim Washington chapter at this time, but their chapter contact
information is listed below for any information.
Please try to attend not only the banquet hosted by
your home chapter but any other that you can. It is always fun
and interesting to see how other chapter banquets are done.
Your attendance and support is not only very welcome, it is
vital to each chapter to help fund all of their projects that
make SCI what it is. I try to make them all.
On the National level SCI is also in high gear preparing
for the largest hunting convention in North America. I
will be in Las Vegas this year on February 1-4. While at the
convention you will want to make sure you attend the
“Advanced Fundraising Seminar” put on by Kim Rappley
and his field coordinators staff. Those of you that missed it
last year not only missed out on a great seminar, but a chance
to win some really good prizes. This is a great opportunity for
not only Chapter Presidents but all Chapter members as well
to learn some fundraising ideas that really work well. I will be
there as always, and I certainly hope to see you there as well.
