Message from the
e would like to welcome everyone to the Annual Moda Fashion Show presented by Palomar
W College Fashion Department. The concept behind the show is Fabricated Dreams, which
entails making your own dreams come true, as well as a nod to the use of fabric in clothing design.
Fabricated Dreams will display the diverse talents of emerging fashion designers and merchandisers
from Palomar College. The fashions showcased are designed from start to finish by the Fashion Design
students at Palomar College, as well as participating local high school students. The designers were
able to submit anything from a single look to a full collection, which features five or more head-totoe
looks. We cannot say enough about the talent, creativity and dedication the designers have put
into their creations. They envisioned each of their designs from an initial concept board, which will
be displayed in the lobby, to the final product that you will experience walking the runway tonight.
We would also like to highlight the hard work that was put into the construction of the show by our
Fashion Show Presentation class. This class does everything it takes to make the show come alive,
from model selection, lighting, stage design, and much more. On behalf of all of the students from the
Palomar College Fashion Design and Merchandising program we thank you for your continued support.
Many dedicate their entire
lives to something they
love. From the time they are born,
to the time they die, people strive
to succeed in everything they do,
especially involving one’s career.
You see their love and dedication
through their work, and that is
exactly what is seen when looking
at Zandra Rhodes.
Zandra (Lindsey) Rhodes is an
infamous English fashion designer
who was born in Chatham, Kent
in September of 1940. She was
introduced to the world of fashion
at a young age by her mother.
Zandra studied at Medway College
and then at The Royal College of
Art in London, where her major
area of study was printed textile
design; however, her early textile
fashion designs were considered
outrageous by the traditional British
manufacturers, so she decided to
make dresses from her very own
fabrics and innovated the special
use of printed textiles as part of the
garments she created.
Zandra’s lifestyle has been as
dramatic and glamorous as her own
designs. With her bright pink hair,
theatrical makeup and art jewelry,
she stamped her identity on the
international world of fashion,
and was one of the new wave of
British designers who put London
at the forefront of the international
fashion scene in the 1970’s. Zandra’s
unique use of bold prints, fiercely
feminine patterns, and theatrical
use of color, has given her garments
a timeless quality that makes them
unmistakably a Rhodes creation.
Her designs are considered clear,
creative statements, dramatic but
graceful, bold but feminine, and
mostly inspired from organic
material and
nature. Her
approach
to the
Rhodes
construction of garments can be
seen in her use of reversed exposed
seams and in her use of jeweled
safety pins and tears during the
punk era, earning her the name
“Princess of Punk”.
Zandra Rhodes collections
are sold in top stores
and boutiques around
the world, and she has
designed for clients
such as Diana, Princess
of Wales, Elizabeth
Taylor, Anastasia,
Paris Hilton and Joan
Rivers, but her work
does not just stop with
dresses and printed
textiles. Zandra also
encompasses various
exciting licenses
including jewelry,
wrapping paper, a full
range of china for Royal
Doulton, furs for Pologeorgis in
New York, she has also collaborated
with MAC to produce a limited
edition makeup range, and has
diversified into designing the
sets and costumes for operas
internationally.
Zandra is a unique and
unmistakably outstanding
woman who loves what she does.
Fashion has been her life from
the time she was born, and she
pursued the industry with full
force, undoubtedly succeeding in
everything she has done. Zandra
Rhodes definitely has made an
impact in fashion history, and from
the looks of it, she is not stopping
anytime soon.

The internet has taken a hold of the fashion world and is not letting go. You can view coveted fashion
shows on line, shop for your favorite clothing brands and now follow your favorite “blogs”. Fashion
blogs have become a trend with all ages, even as young as 12 years old. Bloggers are posting everyday ideas
for outfits to where to find the best deals on clothes. Magazines like Lucky have a special section every month
highlighting a specific blogger for their readers to follow.
Fashion blog cupcakesandcashmere.com follows a woman named Emily. She posts everything from
what she wore to what recipes she made for the day. She provides daily photographs with descriptions on
exactly where to purchase the clothing and even direct links to their e-tailing site. She says in order to build
a following for a blog “There’s no exact formula for garnering an audience, but I write frequently, provide
original content and truly love everything that I include on my blog”.
Another blog, whatiwore2day.com, follows a woman named Kasmira Kit. I was able to briefly interview
her and when asked what her most creative fashion move was she replied “Layering. It has allowed me to use
my wardrobe to its fullest potential.” She also states layering opens up a whole world of “texture, shape, color
and patterns.” When asked what inspires her, she stated “Everything. From a bouquet of flowers, to the carpet
in a ballroom.”
Fashion blogging has become a new culture for people of all ages. It is a way of becoming connected
with other people that share the same passion as you do - a passion for fashion!

1. What is Palomar Fashion
Club?
Palomar Fashion Club is a
growing family of fashionistas,
designers, models and students
who have an interest in the
fashion world.
2. What do you do?
We have small fashion shows
during events; for example,
we had a drag queen fashion
show for Coming-Out Day. We
collaborated with the LGBTQA
Club, and we had a Recycled
B Y
w w w . h e a r t b r e a k e r t a t t o o . c o m
Fashion Show in observance of
Earth Day. Also it gives a chance
for designers, models, stylists
etc. at our school to show what
they can do at these events!
Right now, we are
trying to see if we can
participate more in the
community. We try to do
community service as well as flea
markets to raise money for our
club. Club members can sell their
products that they make, such
as jewelry, shirts, hair accessories,
etc.
3. Is your club beneficial? Why?
Yes, it is beneficial. From my
experience in the past, it has
exposed me how it feels to
show my garments, have
wonderful models to wear them,
and show people my skills. It is
an awesome feeling from a view
point as a new fashion design
major.
4. Do we need to have anything,
such as skills, to be a member of
your club?
No. Just have some interests in
fashion! And we’ll all work from
there!
5. Where can we get the contact
