selfcensorship, maybe? Not a chance! Red Hot
Chili Peppers say they have never played better.
The musicians must be very close to each other
- as song-writers and composers - as well as
personally, because their tight-yet-easy
relationship resulted in 28 songs on two CDs:
Mars and Jupiter. According to singer Anthony
Kiedis, the band's ninth recording is their best
so far. It was also caused by an abundance of
creativity, and from this, an internal
competition for songs, and hard work on each
track. Those that did not satisfy everyone
involved (including Rick Rubin, the long-term
producer of the band) simply were not
included.
The band speaks about
a similar atmosphere which
distinguished their record
“Californication.” But they say
that “Stadium Arcadium” was
conceived and born in an even
friendlier atmosphere and
with greater ease. According
to Kiedis, the band was not
pressured by any deadlines
and it played just for the
recording itself. That's why
they had time to develop even
seemingly meaningless ideas.
But what ideas? For fans, the answer to this
question is of key importance. Did Red Hot
Chilli Peppers lean towards harder rock, did
they add more electronics, did they give way to
their weakness for good quality pop, or did
bass guitarist Flea recall his early idols from the
jazz period? Or is it a hefty funk?
Maybe all this mixed
together. Guitarist John
Frusciante is rumoured to be
at his best, and because of
the mention of the
“Californication” recording
we can also expect several
very melodic pieces. Fans of
their music can also get
a clear picture of the album
and concert in Sazka Arena
on the basis of two quotes
which appeared in connection
with “Stadium
Arcadium.” According to
Flea: “Anyone who doesn't like our new
recording can't like Red Hot Chili Peppers.” And
partial information released by sound master
Ryan Hewitt: “Everybody is asking me whether
there will be more funk on the recording. All
I can say is: Yes.”
