Hi, my name is Dr. Kristen Brown. I am a naturopathic physician who practices holistic family medicine and I feel passionate
about helping my patients achieve a vibrant state of health!
I am a Greenshield provider and my services are covered for all full-time Douglas College students. My practice offers general
family healthcare and is guided by the principles of naturopathic medicine. I choose to seek out the underlying cause of
imbalance and practice “whole-person” healthcare. As a licensed naturopathic physician, I treat patients with concerns both
acute and chronic in nature.
A few examples of commonly treated health concerns include:
• Headaches, depression, allergies, fatigue, insomnia and anxiety.
• Hormonal imbalance, PMS, women’s health issues, infertility, digestive problems, skin conditions, asthma & arthritis.
• Weight gain, autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes.
• Colds and flu, ear and throat infections, joint and muscle pain, fevers and sport/athletic injuries.
• Stress management protocols, exercise prescription, weight loss protocols are also available.
In practice, I use medicines and therapeutics that enhance the body’s self-healing process, and they include:
• Clinical nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine preparations, counseling, and physical medicine.
• Specific programs for stress management, weight loss, detoxification and cleansing, exercise prescription, immune
support, childhood nutrition, healthy pregnancy, nutrition for athletes and pre and post-surgery protocols.
I obtained my undergraduate degree in physical education before completing my 4-year naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University in Seattle.
Fees: Free for students with Greenshield coverage. Greenshield student health plan covers fees for 6-8 visits for full time students.
If you are suffering from muscular pain and stiffness due to trauma, repetitive stress, or just poor posture, Active Release
Technique (A.R.T.) can be the solution for you.
HOW DOES A.R.T. WORK?
Trauma, overtraining and repetitive stress can all lead to undesirable changes within muscles. These changes include a
build up of adhesions, scar tissue, and fibrosis, the presence of which can lead to pain and tightness.
A.R.T. is a special type of deep tissue therapy that can effectively remove this unhealthy tissue. The key that sets it apart
from other types of ‘static’ therapies is the ACTIVE lengthening of the affected muscle by the patient, helping the therapist to
more effectively RELEASE or break up the unhealthy tissue within the muscle.
WHAT ARE SOME COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED WITH A.R.T.?
• stiff/painful neck and shoulder due to excessive amounts of time in front of computers
• back pain and associated sciatica from a car accident
• shoulder pain due to a sport or weight training injury
• runner’s knee due to tight IT band
The best way to appreciate the benefits of A.R.T. is to try it out. Note: Student Greenshield Plan provides coverage for up to 10 sessions.
Fees: Free up to 10 sessions/ $35 per session after
