collaborative effort, called RBA Today, is led by the WV

• The Family Resource Network in collaboration with the
Office of Information and Referral and the Shepherd
University Social Work Seniors has created a Resource
Guide for the Panhandle. A free download is available at

• Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle is pleased to
announce their newest team member, Jaime Stone, as
lead mechanic.
• Dr. Seung-yun Kim, Shepherd University assistant
professor of computer information sciences, has received
a $24,695 WV IDeA Network of Biomedical Research
Excellence Faculty Research Development Award.
• Prettyman Broadcasting has received three major
broadcast awards of excellence from the West Virginia
Broadcasters Association: Best Morning Show; Best
Newscast; and Best Talk Show. They also recently
received 1st place in Breaking News; 1st place in
Regularly Scheduled Newscast; and 1st place for Best
Host (Hans Fogle) from the West Virginia Associated
Press Broadcasters Association.
• Russell Porter, dean of graduate studies and continuing
education at Shepherd University, was named an
American Council on Education fellow for 2010-2011.
• Dr. Lisa Ross, Incisive Learning Designs, recently
spoke at the George Mason University’s 2010 Workplace
Diversity Conference.
• Main Street Martinsburg recently recognized
community volunteers: Dan Hall, State Farm
Insurance, was named Board Member of the Year; April
Krabal, My Bank! First United Bank & Trust, was
named Volunteer of the Year; and Mark Baldwin, City of
Martinsburg, was named Public Official of the Year.
• The laboratory at West Virginia Hospitals-East’s City
Hospital has been awarded accreditation by the
Accreditation Committee of the College of American
Pathologists.
• The United Way of the Eastern Panhandle recently
presented Tommy Newcomb, A Plus Plumbing, with the
Volunteer of the Year Award; Mary Clare Eros with the
Marvin J. Yurish Spirit Award; and Ken Barton, Steptoe &
Johnson, with the Van Ryzin Award.
• The Eastern Panhandle Insurance Professionals recently
installed their new officers: President Vickie Elliott and
Vice President Glenda Horn of Farmers & Mechanics
Insurance Company; Secretary Beverly McCarty,
Treasurer Roxanne Ashbaugh and Parliamentarian Pamela
Grimm of Smith-Nadenbousch Insurance. Also,
Glenda Horn was named 2009-2010 Insurance Woman of
the Year; and Pamela Grimm was named 2009-2010
Rookie of the Year.
• The City Hospital Foundation and Jefferson Health
Care Foundations recently elected officers for 2010.
Susan Snowden, Martin & Seibert, was elected
chairman; Robert Baronner, BCT, was elected vice
chairman; Liz Oates was elected secretary; and John
Beatty, BB&T, was elected treasurer. Also, Henry Kayes,
Centra Bank, was appointed to the Board of Directors;
and Diane Dailey, W. Harley Miller Contractors; David
DeJarnett, Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love; and
Terry Hess, JayDee’s Family Fun Center, were
reappointed to the Board.
• Susan Woodward, RN, was recently named City
Hospital’s Quality Service Award winner for April 2010.
• City Hospital is pleased to announce that the hospital’s
blood bank was granted accreditation by the American
Association of Blood Banks (AABB).
