• Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle is pleased to<br />

• Dr. Seung-yun Kim, Shepherd University assistant<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> computer in<strong>for</strong>mation sciences, has received<br />

a $24,695 WV IDeA Network <strong>of</strong> Biomedical Research<br />

Excellence Faculty Research Development Award.<br />

• Prettyman Broadcasting has received three major<br />

broadcast awards <strong>of</strong> excellence from the West Virginia<br />

Broadcasters Association: Best Morning Show; Best<br />

Newscast; and Best Talk Show. They also recently<br />

received 1st place in Breaking News; 1st place in<br />

Regularly Scheduled Newscast; and 1st place <strong>for</strong> Best<br />

Host (Hans Fogle) from the West Virginia Associated<br />

Press Broadcasters Association.<br />

• Russell Porter, dean <strong>of</strong> graduate studies and continuing<br />

education at Shepherd University, was named an<br />

American Council on Education fellow <strong>for</strong> <strong>2010</strong>-2011.<br />

• Dr. Lisa Ross, Incisive Learning Designs, recently<br />

spoke at the George Mason University’s <strong>2010</strong> Workplace<br />

Diversity Conference.<br />

• Main Street Martinsburg recently recognized<br />

community volunteers: Dan Hall, State Farm<br />

Insurance, was named Board Member <strong>of</strong> the Year; April<br />

Krabal, My Bank! First United Bank & Trust, was<br />

named Volunteer <strong>of</strong> the Year; and Mark Baldwin, City <strong>of</strong><br />

Martinsburg, was named Public Official <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

• The laboratory at West Virginia Hospitals-East’s City<br />

Hospital has been awarded accreditation by the<br />

Accreditation Committee <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> American<br />

Pathologists.<br />

• The United Way <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Panhandle recently<br />

presented Tommy Newcomb, A Plus Plumbing, with the<br />

Volunteer <strong>of</strong> the Year Award; Mary Clare Eros with the<br />

Marvin J. Yurish Spirit Award; and Ken Barton, Steptoe &<br />

Johnson, with the Van Ryzin Award.<br />

• The Eastern Panhandle Insurance Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals recently<br />

installed their new <strong>of</strong>ficers: President Vickie Elliott and<br />

Vice President Glenda Horn <strong>of</strong> Farmers & Mechanics<br />

Insurance Company; Secretary Beverly McCarty,<br />

Treasurer Roxanne Ashbaugh and Parliamentarian Pamela<br />

Grimm <strong>of</strong> Smith-Nadenbousch Insurance. Also,<br />

Glenda Horn was named 2009-<strong>2010</strong> Insurance Woman <strong>of</strong><br />

• The City Hospital Foundation and Jefferson Health<br />

Care Foundations recently elected <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>for</strong> <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

Susan Snowden, Martin & Seibert, was elected<br />

chairman; Robert Baronner, BCT, was elected vice<br />

chairman; Liz Oates was elected secretary; and John<br />

Beatty, BB&T, was elected treasurer. Also, Henry Kayes,<br />

Centra Bank, was appointed to the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors;<br />
