I’ll be honest – I have a problem. We 

literally have so much going on that I simply 

do not have room in this article to go over 

everything. Could a Chamber of Commerce 

have any better problem than that? I think 

not. I encourage you to take a few minutes 

to read this newsletter cover to cover. You 

will find information on the many programs 

and events that we have coming up in the 

next several months. The attendance at all 

of our events and programs has been 

awesome. If you haven’t had the chance to 

take advantage of these opportunities, I urge

Meet Your Board of Directors 

Kevin Knowles 

Berkeley Senior Services 

Kevin Knowles is Resource Development Director for Berkeley Senior Services which offers a 

network of programs and services to enable seniors to remain independent, participating members 

of our community. In this role, he is responsible for building and directing BSS’s development of 

resources to promote awareness of BSS programs, develop badly needed revenue sources such as 

donations, sponsorship, planned giving and bequests throughout Berkeley County. Additionally, he 

oversees the development of the agency’s volunteer program. Kevin brings over 20 years 

experience to BSS in resource development and community relations and is instrumental in 

developing and implementing BSS funds and volunteer development strategies for Berkeley County 

Seniors. Kevin has been involved with various volunteer agencies and committees including: Chamber of Commerce (Board of 

Directors, Auction Committee, Golf Committee, Government Affairs/Transportation Committee and Leadership Berkeley 

Graduate), United Way of the Eastern Panhandle (Board of Directors), Common Purpose (Past President), Boy’s & Girl’s Club of 

the Eastern Panhandle (Vice President), Berkeley Senior Services (Past President), Community Networks (Past Vice President), 

Berkeley Community Pride (Past Vice President), Region 9, Kiwanis, and several other committees. He is originally from 

Scranton, Pa. and has been in Martinsburg for seven years. Kevin also co-owns Day’ Javu and Dana’s Tuxedo, with his wife 

Dana, in downtown Martinsburg. Kevin and Dana have been married for 10 years and they have 2 children. Kevin enjoys his 

Irish roots and travels often to Ireland. 

Gail Moxley 

CNB Bank 

Gail is a native of the Eastern Panhandle. She attended Jefferson High School and Shepherd 

University. She has been in banking for the last 23 years and completed the WV Bankers Association 

School. Additionally, she served as an instructor for the WV Bankers Association for two semesters. 

She is currently a Vice President and Commercial Lender with CNB Bank. Gail is a board member of 

the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce and was named 2008 Volunteer of the Year. 

She also has served on the Chamber’s Auction Committee, Golf Committee and is currently 

chairperson of the Expo Committee. Gail went through the Leadership Berkeley Class of 2005 and 

highly recommends to anyone who hasn’t participated. She was a board member of Community 

Networks Inc. from 2005-2010. In July, she will become President of the Martinsburg Rotary Club. 

She is vice chair of the Eastern Panhandle Single Family Ad Hoc Committee. In 2006, Gail was named 

Eastern Panhandle Board of Realtors Affiliate of the Year and Eastern Panhandle Home Builders Association Associate Member 

of the Year. Gail enjoys traveling with her family, the occasional round of golf and taking care of her two Labrador Retrievers. 

Gail is married to Jeff, and they reside in Charles Town. They have one daughter, Morgan Good, and they are the proud 

grandparents of four.

Broadcasters Association: Best Morning Show; Best

• Russell Porter, dean of graduate studies and continuing 

education at Shepherd University, was named an 

American Council on Education fellow for 2010-2011. 

• Dr. Lisa Ross, Incisive Learning Designs, recently 

spoke at the George Mason University’s 2010 Workplace 

Diversity Conference. 

• Main Street Martinsburg recently recognized 

community volunteers: Dan Hall, State Farm 

Insurance, was named Board Member of the Year; April

• The laboratory at West Virginia Hospitals-East’s City 

Hospital has been awarded accreditation by the 

Accreditation Committee of the College of American 

Pathologists. 

• The United Way of the Eastern Panhandle recently 

presented Tommy Newcomb, A Plus Plumbing, with the 

Volunteer of the Year Award; Mary Clare Eros with the

• The Eastern Panhandle Insurance Professionals recently

Leadership Berkeley Business Day

The 2010 class of Leadership Berkeley celebrated Business Day May 11 by visiting a variety of local businesses and hearing from 

individuals who are involved in bolstering the area’s local business economy. 

Leadership Berkeley started its day speaking with Stephen Christian, the Executive Director of the Berkeley County 

Development Authority, about the county’s business climate and upcoming area developments. The class then heard from 

Brad Hopkins from Firebrand Media about the benefits of using social media for the purposes of advertising a business on a 

budget, Layne Diehl, the Executive Vice President of the Martinsburg campus of Mountain State University about the 

university’s expansion to the Martinsburg Mall and Yogi Yoder, a business owner who operates the promotional company MY 

Promotions, LLC. 

Leadership Berkeley also got an inside look at the operations at Quad Graphics from Bill Klingelsmith and spoke with Christina 

Lundberg, the Center Manager for the Small Business Development Center, about some of the many strategies used to 

bolster small businesses. Randy Lewis, the Executive Director of Main Street Martinsburg, spoke with Leadership Berkeley 

about the ins and outs of operating a business in downtown Martinsburg before the class toured DeFluri’s Fine Chocolates and 

was treated to delicious truffles.

Expo 2010

If you haven’t signed up for a booth or table at the Expo 2010, now is the time. Don’t forget you get an early bird discount price 

by signing up before September 3 rd . You can sign up by going to the Chamber website at www.berkeleycounty.org or by calling 

the chamber at 304-267-4841. Special requests for booth placements will be given on a first come first serve basis. This is our 

third annual Expo and we expect it to be the biggest and best yet! The event will be held again this year at the Martinsburg Mall 

from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Directly after the event, we will have an Exhibitors Mixer so 

participants are able to network with each other and make additional contacts. If you would like more information on the Expo, 

plan to come to a free workshop on Wednesday, August 25 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn. It will be a great way to 

find out more about the Expo and get the most out of your Expo Experience!
