T h e C o m m u n i t y B u i l d i n g Grant Program Criteria The Community Building Grant Program,the Foundation’s largest competitive grant-making program,seeks project proposals that recognize and build on a community’s strengths and assets. To be considered, projects must meet each of the following three criteria: 1. Use existing community resources to strengthen community life 2. Strengthen communities’ and organizations’ ability to meet future challenges 3. Be sustainable or have a lasting impact after grant funding is complete Priorities Projects must also meet at least one of the following priorities: 1. Build collaborative relationships and partnerships to plan,advance and evaluate the project 2. Include the people who will benefit from the project in its planning, implementation and evaluation 3. Develop and strengthen local leadership The Maine Community Foundation encourages projects that are innovative and assume a significant degree of risk in attaining far-reaching goals.
