Working in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on a site
of Special Scientific Interest could be difficult but our Downland
Team have years of experience ensuring filming can take place
without damaging the environment. The highest chalk cliffs in
the country have huge appeal, however the very nature of chalk
can make it extremely dangerous to film near the edge. Risk
assessments and appropriate safety equipment have allowed
James Bond to be catapulted off the cliffs, Cate Blanchett to
stand on the edge in Notes on a Scandal and Sting to play his
guitar on this beautiful landscape.
Quiddich scenes from the Harry
Potter movie the Goblet of Fire
were filmed on Beachy Head using
plate shots and general visuals
which were then digitally mastered
in the studios to create the
stunning effect.
The town has many parks of differing
styles: from the gothic Motcombe
Gardens; to the formal grounds of
the old Gilbert Manor House with its
original Victorian Folly; to Hampden
Park’s vast pond surrounded by its
wooded walks.
Eastbourne is also surrounded on
one aspect by the vast open space
of the English Channel and the
town’s shingle beaches. At the foot
of the 500ft cliffs sunk onto a level
area of the sea bed is the Royal
Sovereign Lighthouse, whilst above
it perched atop the cliff’s edge sits
the famous Belle Toute lighthouse
used in the TV series of the Fay
Weldon classic ‘The Life and
Loves of a She Devil’.
ONLOCATION
“Excellent service supplied by the Film
Liaison Officer. Plenty of communication and a
willingness to help when we had a problem with
filming in a certain location. The Downland Ranger
was informative and very helpful, without his help
and assistance the shoot would have taken longer.
