Monika Grothe, Curriculum vitæ, July 2012 3 RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: Detailed description Since 08/2003: CMS collaboration Operations support for CMS luminosity group, USCMS & Princeton U, USA; Group of Prof. D.Marlow Assistant Scientist, Univ. of Wisconsin - Madison, Wisconsin, USA; Group of Prof. W.Smith Professore a contratto (fixed-term Professorship 3 years), Univ. of Torino, Italy; Sponsors: Prof. D.Gamba & Dr. A.Staiano Operations support for the CMS luminosity group: • Responsible for analyzing special LHC Van-der-Meer scans to determine absolute luminosity calibration • Responsible as detector-on-call (DOC) shifter for the day-to-day operation of the CMS HF-based luminosity system • Develop method to use muon candidates reconstructed offline as luminometer • Represent the luminosity group vis a vis CMS offline operations Data analysis in the electroweak physics analysis working group of CMS: • Co-leader of working group to search for the dijet mass anomaly seen by CDF in W+2jet events; collaborate closely with authors of Monte Carlo descriptions of the W+2jets dijet mass spectrum; result made public as CMS-PAS-EWK-11-017, paper under preparation • First CMS meaurement of vector boson production in association with jets: Led the Wisconsin effort (3 students) on this analysis; contributed crucial parts of the analysis shown in Moriond2011 conference: unfolding corrections and electron efficiency corrections derived with tag-and-probe data-driven technique; results published in J. High Energy Phys. 01 (2012) 010 • First CMS measurement of inclusive W and Z cross sections: contributed, together with 2 U Wisconsin students, trigger correction factors to measurement; results published in J. High Energy Phys. 01 (2011) 080 • In 2009/10, served as production and validation contact of the electroweak physics analysis group; provided, together with one U Wisconsin student, the data-quality code run routinely in the CMS offline DQM framework for electroweak electron channel decays Calorimeter trigger SLHC upgrade: • Contact for the SLHC L1 calorimeter trigger emulator software • Carried out, together with one U Wisconsin student and several CERN summer students, L1 calorimeter algorithm studies, results of which were included in the CMS Upgrades Technical Proposal, CERN-LHCC-2011-006 Preparation of data analysis with CMS: • Coordinator, 2007/08, of the CMS physics analysis group on forward physics; during 2006 co-convenor, with J. Mnich, of the CMS diffractive and forward physics working group • Achieved CMS approval of four Monte Carlo based analyses relevant for first-year data taking: on exclusive production of dileptons and exclusive photoproduction of Upsilons, on single diffractive W production, on single diffractive dijet production, on accessing low Bjorken-x in forward jets • Extension of the CMS baseline detector for detecting central exclusive production (CEP) of Higgs, which is a discovery channel in certain regions of the MSSM
