Page 10 Quilters by the Sea September 2012 Randy Miller COMMUNITY RELATIONS So far 159 quilts have been turned in to Community Relations, which is fifty-three per cent of our 2012 goal of 350. 100% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10% 0% 53% I am going to be out of town for the September meeting, and since it will be our fund raiser auction, we will not have any quilt kits at the meeting. If anyone needs a kit before the meeting or wants to give me a finished quilt, please call me and we can make arrangements to take care of it. Sonia Das will be collecting School Supplies at the September meeting. The school supplies will be donated to For the Child, New Life Beginnings, and the Long Beach Woman’s Shelter. All types of school supplies are appreciated. Some of the charities have a few older kids, so keep them in mind while shopping. Also, For the Child can use children’s books and other items that they need at “Kid’s Place” (Courthouse child care). We have not scheduled a community relations meeting for September. If this changes an e-mail blast will be sent out. I especially want to thank everyone who came to the August Workshop and who participated in the Jelly Roll Races at the retreat. Many tops were completed and there are a lot of them out there to be quilted. I think we may make our goal this year thanks to everyone’s effort.
Page 11 Quilters by the Sea September 2012 QBS 2012 Election Information On behalf of the nominating committee the following members will appear on the ballot for 2013. The ballot will be available and you will be asked to vote at the September 13, 2012 general meeting. President - Susan Contreras VP Programs - Kathleen Lisenby VP Workshops - Vicki Allred & Marilyn Pond Secretary - Sheryl Stahl Treasurer - Dean Lund Membership – Rose Aldepe and Brandi Kelly-Contreras Internal Auditor – JoAnna Kerrigan and Margot Taub Special Events – Open Quilt Show Chair – Jo Ann White and Sabrina Ugwu Absentee ballots from members in good standing must be received by the day before the Annual Business Meeting. To cast an absentee ballot, a member will write out her/his votes on any slip of paper, place it in an envelope, seal it, and sign it across the flap. This envelope shall be delivered to the parliamentarian (Sandy Carreon 211 E Forhan St, Long Beach, CA 90805) prior to the annual meeting, who shall deliver all absentee ballots to the head teller for tally. Voting shall be conducted by secret ballot and the person with the most votes wins. Please consider volunteering some of your time to fill one of the appointed positions or a standing committee position. Simply let a member of the nominating committee know if you are willing to help out. The appointed positions are for one year and no more than two consecutive years. They are: Newsletter Editor-Lori Davies Parliamentarian-Sandy Carreon Librarian- Open Intraguild Coordinator- Open Community Services/Philanthropic Coordinator- Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds Representative –Sandy Carreon Standing Committees have no term limits and no voting rights on the Board. The positions are: Historian, Show and Tell, Facilities/Equipment, Hospitality, President‘s Gift, Bee Keeper, Publicity, Opportunity Quilt Current and Opportunity Quilt Future, Guild Basket, Greeter, Photographer Please contact one of the following if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
