The Inside Story By Carmen Rideout, Executive Director A u g u s t 2 0 1 2 C e n t e r S t a g e Where is September? As you may have already noticed, our August Center Stage newsletter is just that: August. Beginning in September we will be Photo by Mindy Wilson going to seasonal newsletters on a quarterly basis – three months in one edition. Like many other businesses and organizations we are looking at ways to be more efficient and effective with the funds we receive. We are hoping to be able to serve more people this way. There will be three months of menus and activities, as well three months of news and information you can use. Eliminating two major mailings a year saves money and it also conserves valuable employee time and resources. There are many ways to find out what is going on at the Center aside from our newsletter. Our website at seniorcenter.org is full of information including our menus, newsletters, articles, information on services and up to date news on events. We are very fortunate to have a page dedicated to older adults in the Sheridan Press every Saturday and we have a regular spot with Kim Love on Public Pulse the fourth Thursday of every month on KROE. In addition to these fine resources we welcome you to stop down and visit with us at 211 Smith Street to learn more about what we are all about! Thank you for your ongoing support. We believe you will be able to receive and access the same amount of information as in the past just in a little different format - Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Have a great August! Please let me know what you think… ☼ Think like a kid again! (when it comes to staying hydrated…) By Jaylene Daugherty, RD Just because we are not kids doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some kid pleasures during the summer. While it’s hot out (or even when it’s not), think like a kid to stay hydrated adequately for your health. Try to get 8-10 8oz glasses of liquid a day for a good amount of fluid for your body. Remember: we don’t always feel thirsty when our bodies need water! 1. Freeze your favorite low calorie drink in ice cube trays to have as popsicles. You could use sugar-free lemonade/Kool-Aid© or even orange juice! 2. Stop your day for an afternoon snack (after your nap of course). Plan a refreshment of 12oz of fluid and a piece of fruit. 3. Put your favorite liquid in a fun and colorful water bottle to carry with you around the house or on a stroll to the park. 4. Sit outside and enjoy a piece of fruit (which is mostly water). Let the juice get your fingers all sticky and run down your arms. Then, of course, you could run through the sprinkler…. ☼ Receptionist-less Weekends and Holidays By Linda Gostas, Assistant Director The primary function for our weekend/holiday receptionist at the Senior Center had been dispatching. Due to recent program updates, the mini-bus is now dispatched from the Transit Facility 7 days a week. Beginning on Saturday, August 4, 2012, there will not be a Receptionist at the Front Desk on weekends and holidays. Not to worry, you will still be able to: � Order or cancel your Home Delivered Meal – call their new number - 672-6079 (between 8:00 & 10:00 a.m. or between 12:00 Noon & 1:00 p.m.) � Reserve your Mini Bus Ride – call 674-9272 � Enjoy the meals in the Senior Center Dining Room. (Meal will be served as normal. The Dining Room Desk Receptionist will continue to assist you.) � Meet with your groups as normal ☼ P a g e 2
