Construction sites:
ERDF and FFB, a joint venture
ERDF chairwoman Michèle Bellon and Didier Ridoret, chairman of the Fédération
Française du Bâtiment (FFB), have today signed an agreement aimed at improving
cooperation regarding the connection of construction sites. This joint arrangement will
also accompany the introduction of new regulations and the improvement of prevention
and safety, in particular with regard to electrical hazards.
FFB and ERDF: a natural partnership

Since 2007, the changes brought about by the total opening up of the energy market and
changes in the code of urban planning have complicated matters for construction
professionals as regards access to the power grid.
These difficulties have essentially consisted in changes in procedures, ever more points
of contact and longer waiting times.
Furthermore, environmental issues and the imminent emergence of smart grids (smart
power distribution network) are also affecting the respective businesses of ERDF and
FFB.
These factors have thus prompted the two parties to enter into dialogue in order to work
out a general framework of cooperation.

Commitments to cooperate in several areas:
Accelerating temporary site connections:
Building work cannot commence without electricity, which is why the two parties
undertake to see to it that connection times are shortened.
Accompanying the introduction of new regulations on statements of
work
ERDF and FFB undertake to:
- inform all parties involved (contracting owners, companies) about changes in
regulations and their impact;
- produce communication tools on this subject;
- develop a system for capitalizing on and sharing information.
Taking action in the field of prevention and safety:
FFB undertakes to raise awareness among its members about electrical hazards,
while ERDF will provide the relevant documents and information.
Carrying out joint initiatives in the field of smart grids
ERDF and FFB undertake to conduct joint technological awareness-raising
campaigns on smart grids.
Électricité Réseau Distribution France (ERDF), formed on 1 January 2008, manages 95% of the electricity
distribution networks in metropolitan France. The company, with a workforce of 35000, operates, develops
and maintains 1.3 million km of electric lines serving 35 million customers. In this capacity it carries out
numerous operations on this network such as connections, entries into service, repairs and changes of
supplier.
