ACEM was established just prior to the<br />

successful delivery of the Sydney 2000<br />

Olympic Games. ACEM’s mission is to<br />

provide tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g/education, research<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce its establishment, ACEM has<br />

become a world leader <strong>in</strong> the field<br />

of <strong>event</strong> <strong>management</strong> education,<br />

with<strong>in</strong> Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne,<br />

The focus of the Executive Certificate<br />

<strong>in</strong> Event Management is on develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

an understand<strong>in</strong>g of the theory and<br />

various types of <strong>event</strong>s. The course<br />

content is based on the results of an<br />

John was the foundation Director<br />

<strong>management</strong> and is a Lecturer<br />

<strong>in</strong> the masters program <strong>in</strong> <strong>event</strong><br />

<strong>management</strong> at utS. John has over<br />

30 years experience <strong>in</strong> the field of<br />

<strong>event</strong> <strong>management</strong> dur<strong>in</strong>g which<br />

time he has been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the<br />

development and delivery of well over<br />

1000 ma<strong>in</strong>ly public <strong>event</strong>s. <strong>in</strong> 2007<br />

he received an order of australian<br />

for his contribution to the australian<br />

<strong>event</strong>s <strong>in</strong>dustry. Prior to work<strong>in</strong>g at<br />

utS, John was employed as Special<br />

<strong>event</strong>s manager for tourism nSW<br />

and Special <strong>event</strong>s manager for the<br />

Darl<strong>in</strong>g Harbour authority. John is the<br />

co-chair of Judges for the australian<br />

<strong>event</strong> awards and co-author of<br />

The Australian Centre for Event<br />

Management (ACEM) was<br />

established <strong>in</strong> 1999 to further<br />

develop and support the work of <strong>UTS</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g best practice <strong>in</strong> <strong>event</strong><br />

<strong>management</strong>.<br />

In perform<strong>in</strong>g this role, the Centre<br />

works closely with <strong>in</strong>dustry to<br />

provide <strong>in</strong>novative, high quality,<br />

practically orientated and locally<br />

relevant education programs which<br />

are suited to the needs of both the<br />

public and private sector. The Centre<br />

also conducts <strong>in</strong>-house tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

programs for the Australian and<br />

overseas <strong>event</strong>s <strong>in</strong>dustry and has<br />

undertaken a number of research<br />

projects designed to extend the body<br />
