UTS Business School –
designed by Frank Gehry

The university of Technology, Sydney has realised a once in a
generation opportunity for a new building to accommodate our
Business School, designed by the world renowned architect,
Mr Frank gehry.
Frank gehry is the architect for such iconic structures as the
guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, the Beekman Tower, nYC and the
Walt Disney Concert hall, los angeles. The uTS Business School
will be included in this world class collection.
This is history in the making for uTS – we will have a building that is
a physical expression of the future-thinking, innovation and creativity
that is part of the very fabric of the uTS Business School.

From model to premier performing
arts destination.

Our new building which will be known as The Dr Chau Chak Wing
Building will not only transform the way research, teaching and
learning happens at uTS but will become a key destination in the
Sydney cultural landscape, a destination for visitors, industry and the
community at large.
Frank gehry has partnered with uTS to create the only building
in australia embodying his unique design approach: “i am here
because of the vision of the Business School,” he said.
Our vision is to be recognized both nationally and internationally
as a world-class business school in a world-leading university of
technology. For us this means integrated research and teaching, with
students and staff capable of developing holistic solutions for solving
complex problems.

Our vision has already secured the major partner
for the project being Dr Chau Chak Wing, a
Chinese-australian businessman who gave a
leadership gift of $20m in support of our future
Business School and in recognition of our vision.
The new facility, part of our City Campus
Masterplan, will consolidate the existing Business
campus into one iconic centre. inside the building,
common spaces are flooded with natural light,
flexible seating in the lecture halls facilitates
teamwork, and disciplines and research centres
are physically interconnected.
Equally important is what gehry calls the
building’s “porosity”, embedding the Business
School into the heart of Sydney’s business
community. Our industry and community
engagement will strengthen exponentially as we
partner with those who want an innovative and
creative approach to business.
in a select number of Frank gehry designed buildings there has been an
opportunity to have the gehry team build a 3-D scale model to commemorate
the building itself as well as to assist in bringing to life our discussions with
future donors, industry, staff, students and alumni about this iconic building.
Making the vision real, the model will help to facilitate philanthropic and
commercial opportunities for the uTS Business School.

The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is due to be completed in 2014. however,
we have the chance now to use the model as a key feature as part of uTS’s
25th anniversary celebrations in 2013.
The gehry model will hold historic and cultural significance given the status
of the building within our cityscape. it will be housed in a prime location in
the uTS Tower Building until it reaches its permanent destination in the
new building where it will be prominently positioned and will be seen by
thousands of visitors annually.

We invite you to join with us to support uTS and the future
Business School by enabling us to commission a Frank gehry
model for future generations. We are about to join the world class
collection of gehry-designed landmarks and hope you will take up
this once in a lifetime opportunity.

“uTS looks forward to further commitments from the
friends and partners of uTS and the Business School
who wish to be associated with the Dr Chau Chak Wing
Building, the leading edge programs it will host, and the
future leaders it will inspire.”
Tree of Knowledge
“ it’s a gnarly project a business school, not sexy like a
museum or concert hall. We love the prospect. Thinking
of it as a tree house came tripping out of my head on
the spur of the moment and was not contrived. But on
reflection the metaphor may be apt. A growing learning
organism with many branches of thought some robust
and some ephemeral and delicate.”
