1.8.2 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY<br />
The Legal Department’s in-house experts actively campaign to<br />
raise employee awareness of the need to keep the developments<br />
and information resulting from research and technical assistance<br />
teams strictly confidential. The Group’s intellectual property policy<br />
consists of continually enhancing and extending the protection of its<br />
essential assets. The most relevant and economically suitable means<br />
of protection with respect to the technology in question are selected<br />
to draw maximum competitive advantage from innovations (patent<br />
filing, publication, secrecy, etc.).<br />
<strong>Imerys</strong> has a broad portfolio of trademarks and current and pending<br />
patents. <strong>Imerys</strong> holds more than 3,500 registered or pending<br />
trademarks, more than 1,000 granted and pending patents and<br />
more than 200 industrial and utility models. The Group has filed the<br />
trademark “<strong>Imerys</strong>” in more than 90 countries.<br />
The Group continues to assess and optimize the cost/benefit ratio<br />
of its intellectual property rights portfolio. It regularly rationalizes its<br />

portfolio of patents, industrial designs or models and trademarks<br />
in order to ensure that value-generating technologies, designs and<br />
trademarks are efficiently protected.<br />
<strong>Imerys</strong> also intends to defend its intellectual property rights actively to<br />
maintain the competitive advantages they give. The Group strives to<br />
protect industrial property in all areas and on all continents whenever<br />
relevant.<br />
To <strong>Imerys</strong>’ knowledge, there are no rights held by <strong>Imerys</strong> at<br />
the date of this <strong>Registration</strong> <strong>Document</strong> on any patent, license,<br />
trademark, design or model whose potential losses would be likely<br />
to have a material adverse effect on the Group’s overall activity and<br />
profitability. Likewise and as of today’s date, <strong>Imerys</strong> is not aware of<br />
any outstanding litigation, opposition or claim related to the Group’s<br />
intellectual property rights likely to have a material negative impact<br />
on its activity or financial situation.<br />
