welcoming some 7,000 new graduates to the Alumni
Association. Membership is free and lasts a lifetime – we wish
them every success and look forward to keeping in touch.
Needless to say, the job market has become ever more
challenging. However, futures, our drop in advice centre has
proved highly successful in supporting our students
preparing for the world of work. This service is also available
to you as alumni.
thinking of setting up your own business, advice and guidance
is available in person, by telephone or by email. Some of you
may consider taking advantage of the 20% discount offered
One of many highlights since the last issue has been our
outstanding results from the rigorous, national Research
Assessment Exercise. Rated as having produced “research of
international excellence” in all 17 subject areas submitted for
review, no fewer than 11 were assessed as “containing world
– leading research”. This is a major step change in the
breadth and depth of our increasing research capacity which
is a key area in our future strategy.
Still on the sports-front, a recent arrival from the international
golf world is Gary Wolstenholme, former Ryder Cup player, one
of few to have beaten Tiger Woods, and now a member of our
academic staff as a consultant to the International Institute for
Golf Education.
