After moving to the UK, she underwent further training in ophthalmology. Subsequently, she relocated to Auckland and undertook subspecialist fellowship training in ocular genetics, medical retina and uveitis. She is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Manukau Superclinic and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Auckland, through which she maintains her research interests in addition to her clinical work. As well as being experienced in cataract surgery, Monika’s areas of expertise are medical retinal disorders, particularly macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, genetics of inherited retinal disorders and uveitic eye diseases.
