<strong>–</strong> Middle & Long Distance up to 5000m <strong>–</strong> including Steeple<br />

Chase & Cross Country<br />

<strong>–</strong> Jumps <strong>–</strong> including an introduction to Pole Vault<br />

<strong>–</strong> Throws <strong>–</strong> including Hammer & Seated/Secured Throws<br />

<strong>–</strong> Combined Events<br />

<strong>–</strong> Race Walking<br />

<strong>–</strong> Wheelchair Track & Road<br />

<strong>–</strong> Recreational Running<br />

Coaches may choose to undertake more than one Level 3<br />

Advanced Event Group Coach accreditation.<br />

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />

The Level 3 Advanced Event Group Coach Accreditation<br />

<strong>Program</strong> is designed to:<br />

1. Provide practical opportunities and appropriate learning<br />

experience to enhance the coach’s individual coaching<br />

philosophy and methods, to ensure an athlete’s experience is a<br />

positive one and sees them continue to develop.<br />

2. Fine-tune the development of the physical, psychological,<br />

tactical and technical aspects of the athlete’s involvement<br />

in the sport, to enhance their participation up to State level<br />

competition (or equivalent).<br />

3. Provide the necessary skills to allow a coach to identify the<br />

strengths and weaknesses of an athlete in each of the identified<br />

disciplines and make determinations as to when, whether and<br />

how to assist.<br />

4. Provide the necessary competence to underpin the<br />

advancement of the coach through the <strong>Athletics</strong> Coach<br />

Accreditation Framework to pursue Level 4 Specialist Event<br />

Group Accreditation, should they choose to do so.<br />

Prerequisite:<br />

Candidates must meet at least one of the following prerequisites:<br />

1. Currently hold a Level 2 Club Coach or Level 2 Event Group<br />

Coach and have coached at that level for at least one season.<br />

2. Acquired the Level 2 Club Coach or Level Group Coach<br />

Accreditation through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or<br />

Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).<br />

3. Qualify for automatic entry to the Level 3 on the advice of<br />

<strong>Athletics</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> or the ATFCA.<br />

4. Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to begin the<br />

accreditation program.<br />

ASSESSMENT TASK 1<br />

Participation in the Accreditation <strong>Program</strong><br />

Candidates will be assessed on their willingness to participate in<br />

all activities and their ability to engage with the content during the<br />

program, including practical sessions, discussion groups, case<br />

studies and group tasks.<br />

ASSESSMENT TASK 2<br />

Technique Analysis<br />

Analyze the technical development of an athlete using video and<br />

provide recommendations on possible interventions to assist the<br />

athlete’s technical development. Specifically:<br />

• Analyze the video footage provided.<br />

• Identify the important technical elements of the athlete’s<br />

performance and provide recommendations as to how to<br />

improve the technique.<br />

• Use the video analysis checklist to guide discussion.<br />

ASSESSMENT TASK 3<br />

Practical Coaching<br />

This assessment task will enable the coach to demonstrate that they<br />

can apply the communication and coaching competencies within<br />

their own day-to-day coaching environment. The task will involve a<br />

locally based assessment by a local assessor and a self evaluation<br />

by the candidate coach.<br />

ASSESSMENT TASK 4<br />

Communications Task<br />

This assessment task will ask the coach to provide some evidence of<br />

communication with athletes, clubs, parents and support personnel.<br />

The evidence should clearly outline each of the following:<br />

• Use of modern technology<br />

• Articulation of the goals of the program<br />

• Role of support personnel (doctors, physiotherapists,<br />

nutritionists, psychologists, Strength & Conditioning personnel)<br />

• Risk Management procedures<br />

ASSESSMENT TASK 5<br />

Seasonal Plan<br />

Candidates will be required to develop a seasonal training plan<br />

for a period of not less than 6 months for a designated athlete in<br />

their squad. This assessment task will determine the competence<br />

of the candidate in setting, manipulating and modifying a seasonal<br />

training program, identifying at the three phases:<br />

1. Preparation<br />

2. Pre-competition<br />

3. Competition<br />

Online Learning: Pre-<strong>Program</strong> 4 - 8 hours<br />

Face to Face Delivery 8 - 16 hours<br />

Post-<strong>Program</strong> Tasks 8 hours<br />

Total Hours<br />

**Approximate Only<br />

20 - 32 hours<br />

Not all event groups will require the same amount of time in Face<br />

to Face Delivery.<br />
