Schools Knockout - University of Qld, St Lucia, 5 December 2011
Summary of 2011 competition:
2011 marks the twenty-first year that SKO has been held by Athletics
Australia. The competition has evolved during that time, and the
2011 version follows on from the changes introduced in 2010
SKO provides opportunities for schools to compete in a team Track
& Field event and is the only national athletics program for schools
It gives Member Associations (MA) the chance to encourage
participation in athletics among school-age athletes, and promote
directly to this age group
It provides an opportunity to identify potential members & recruit
them to development squads, clubs or coaching groups
It increases the number of competition opportunities for schools &
their athletes. It may be supported by coaching and skill
development clinics
SKO allows students to engage with, and gain a better
understanding of athletics in addition to competing. Students
should be encouraged to act as team managers, or by assisting the
meet officials. They should be encouraged to contribute to the
promotion and media of the event (on-line stories etc) within their
school, or through the MA and Athletics Australia websites. SKO has
the potential to be linked to broader educational aims, with the
cooperation of school teaching staff
