community. Nominees also demonstrate
commitment to academic excellence and
model ways of recognizing the talents of
individuals. They must be committed to
educating the whole person and to leading
others to fulfill the Gospel call to peace
and justice.

Academic Accomplishments
Saint Xavier’s Class of 2013 features an
exceptional group of academic talent with
22 seniors having been named National
Merit Semifinalists (pictured in the photo)
and another 14 joining them as Commended
Students. This is the largest number of
seniors recognized by the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation for their standardized
test scores since 2009. Additionally, the
senior class has produced two additional
perfect ACT scores. Hunter French and
Nick Sehlinger have each scored a 36, and
they join Jon Fish with this distinct honor.
This past summer, College Board announced
that more than 91% of St. X students that
took Advanced Placement exams last May
earned scores that qualified them to receive
college credit. A total of 109 students that
sat for the exams were named AP Scholars

by College Board, which requires a score of
at least 3 or higher (out of 5) on three or
more exams. Four of them, Alex Goebel,
Andrew Miller, John Ramsey, and
Vincent Stephen, all members of the
Class of 2012, were named National AP
Scholars for their outstanding performance
on all of their AP exams taken. In all,
262 sophomores, juniors, and seniors
took 607 Advanced Placement exams in
22 different subjects.
Rounding out the list of scholastic achievers
were 36 freshmen that were honored at a
reception in October for Xavier Scholars.
These students scored in the top 5% on
their placement exam last December.
