Born and raised in New Britain, she made her life one of aiding others in need. Following a scholastic career at Wellesley College and Columbia Georgia Knapp Thomson University’s School of Business, as well as four years of working in New York City, Georgia came back to her hometown at the start of World War II. She directed the New Britain chapter of the American Red Cross until war’s end, and volunteered for many years afterward following disasters throughout the east including floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. Upon her death at age 92 in 2006, she was the longest-serving member of New Britain’s First Church of Christ Congregational. This fund, established by Georgia prior to her death to benefit the Greater New Britain community, will be used to make grants at the discretion of the Foundation’s board of directors. Edith M.
