The <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS)<br />
seeks to fill a clinical-track, full-time, 12-month position within the <strong>Small</strong> <strong>Animal</strong> <strong>Orthopedic</strong><br />
Surgery section of its Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The position is offered at the Assistant,<br />
Associate or Full Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, and is available immediately.<br />
The position will contribute to a team whose primary mission will be clinical teaching, clinical<br />
service and scholarship.<br />
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will have responsibility for participation in<br />
didactic (classroom) and clinical teaching of professional veterinary students, interns, residents,<br />
and graduate students; will provide health care and service to patients of the Veterinary Teaching<br />
Hospital; will advise and consult with referring veterinarians and clients; will develop or<br />
collaborate in a creative, basic and/or clinically-oriented research program in <strong>Small</strong> <strong>Animal</strong><br />
<strong>Orthopedic</strong> Surgery or an allied field; and will provide leadership in directing research projects<br />
of residents and graduate students. Although scholarship expectations as clinical-track faculty<br />
are typically moderate, scholarship interests that complement those of VCS and the College of<br />
Veterinary Medicine are desirable. Some examples include gait analysis, osteoarthritis,<br />
arthroscopy, fracture healing, oncology, cardiology, infectious disease, individualized medicine,<br />
and related fields. Successful applicants must be able to effectively communicate, work<br />
collegially, and collaborate with diverse internal and external constituencies.<br />
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must possess a DVM or related degree (such as BVSc)<br />
and be board certified or have fulfilled credentials of the American College of Veterinary<br />
<strong>Surgeon</strong>s (ACVS) before date of hire. Preferred qualifications include ACVS boards, an<br />
advanced degree (Masters or PhD in veterinary medicine or closely related field), a record of<br />
research or scholarly productivity, strong clinical experience and leadership in orthopedic<br />
surgery, and evidence of expertise in teaching in a clinical and/or didactic setting.<br />

COLLEGE OVERVIEW: The mission of VCS is to serve the community through education<br />
and through generation and dissemination of new information, for the benefit of animal and<br />
human health and well-being. The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM),<br />
http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/, is organized into four departments, including VCS, Veterinary<br />
Microbiology and Pathology (VMP), Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and<br />
Physiology (VCAPP), and the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB), each dedicated to<br />
excellence in teaching, research and service. The Paul G. Allen School for Global <strong>Animal</strong><br />
Health has recently joined the CVM, adding depth to its teaching, research and service missions.<br />
A core clinical research group in pharmacogenomics has been identified as a research focus<br />
within VCS and will provide diverse research opportunities for the applicant interested in genetic<br />
relationships to disease.<br />
VETERINARY TEACHING HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH FACILITIES: Our state-ofthe-art<br />
Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides the latest in advanced diagnostics, including<br />
advanced imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI, DXA, intraoperative imaging), linear accelerator-based<br />
radiation therapy, arthroscopy, AO-ASIF, external skeletal fixation, interlocking-nail fracture<br />
repair instrumentations, and operating microscopes. The advanced modern research facilities<br />
located in the <strong>Animal</strong> Disease and Biotechnology Facility includes gait lab with kinetic,<br />
kinematic, and surface EMG capabilities, research surgical suite, sterile biochambers, cold ultra<br />
centrifugation, electron microscopy, molecular genetics and transgenic animal facilities.<br />
<strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> is a PAC-12 school and a land-grant institution with an enrollment<br />
of approximately 19,000 students on its Pullman campus and another 5,000 students statewide.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> of Idaho, also a land grant university, is located in Moscow, Idaho, 8 miles from<br />
the Pullman campus. These communities offer a friendly, small-town living environment and<br />
access to a rich assortment of cultural, recreational and athletic attractions. Pullman has a fourseason<br />
