THE Pakistan Engineers Forum in
Qatar (PEF) inducted a new executive
committee (excom) for the next
session 2011-2013 at the grand
finale meeting held at Diplomatic
Club on Monday.
Badar Sohail Khan will be the
new president while the other
office-bearers include M Raheel
Khan (vice-president), Salman bin
Tayyab (general-secretary), M
Javed Iqbal (joint secretary) and
Faisal Rasheed Velvi (treasurer).
Awwab Obaidullah, Mohammad
Riaz, Mahmood Ali Khan,
Mohammad Yousef and Rehan
Ansari have been inducted as members
of the executive committee.
Riyaz A Bakali will act as IT consultant.
M Tahir Jamil and Naeem
Mahmood will be advisors.

Khanzada was the chief guest.
The Pakistani envoy thanked all
the members for expressing their
confidence in him.
He laid out his vision for the next
two years to take the PEF organisation
to new heights by building on
the successes of previous PEF
teams. He stressed that special
attention will be given towards
“image building of Pakistan”.
“We will work to build ties with
locals,” the envoy said. He noted
that other Pakistani professionals
will also be brought to the fold and
families will be involved in PEF
activities.
Earlier, in his welcome address,
the outgoing PEF president
Nadeem Ahmed Bashir expressed
his gratitude to all PEF members,
the Pakistan embassy and all
other supporters, including the
local print media for their help
and assistance. He paid tributes
to community advisor M Ajmal
Chaudhary for his services to the
forum. He spoke in length about
the achievements of the outgoing
excom that took charge in 2009.
He particularly thanked TNG
Kindergarten and Pakistan
International Airlines for helping
in PEF’s relief campaign to the
flood victims in Pakistan. He said,

DVORAK’S much-acclaimed Eighth
Symphony would fill the Opera
House during the Qatar Philharmonic
Orchestra’s performance at
Katara on Saturday.
Written in less than one month
and first performed in 1890, the Czech
composer’s piece draws heavily
from the folk music of his homeland
and is recognised for being joyful.
The evening will include a much
anticipated performance by Bassam
Saba, who will play Daniel
Schnyder’s Concerto for Ney. This is
the first concerto written for the
Ney, a woodwind instrument which
features Arabic music. An endblown
flute of cane, the Ney dates
back to more than 5,000 years. Ney
players are present in wall paintings
in the Egyptian pyramids and
instruments which have been
unearthed at Ur.
Lebanon’s Saba is a leading figure
of Arabic music. Saba studied the
Ney, Oud and violin at the Lebanon
National Conservatory. He is regarded
by the world as a true pioneer of
the Ney as well as Arabic interpretation
of the western flute. Saba has
toured extensively with Fairouz,
Marcel Khalife and Simon Shaheen
Korean maestro Nanse Gum.
and has worked with artists like
Santana, Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Alicia
Keys and Herbie Hancock.
In a true international style of the
Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the
evening will be conducted by the
dynamic Korean maestro Nanse
Gum. In 1980, he was appointed
Conductor of the Korea Philharmonic
Orchestra and he is currently
Artistic Director of the Incheon
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Kurt Meister, Executive Director of
the Philharmonic, said the programme
showcased old and new
music as well as a new interpretation
of ancient instrument.
The next performance of the Qatar
Philharmonic Orchestra will be held
on June 25.

Azimuddin assisted him in distributing
gifts.
Uvais Qidwai officially launched
the Robotic Club and urged the
parents to encourage their wards
to join as members. Asif Nadeem

THE Doha Trade Fair, which concluded
on Tuesday, has attracted
over 222,000 visitors. The exhibition
was organised by the Qatar
Tourism Authority in association
with q.media events.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Raoufuddin
Rizwan, a Doha resident was
adjudged the winner of the monopoly
competition. He was handed
over a new Volkswagen car by
Khaled Zebib, Marketing Manager
at Saad Buzwair Automotive.
“It was such a thrilling and
exciting experience. I love this
game and I am proud that I was
able to play on the board of the
biggest Monopoly in the world
and I am more than excited that I
have won this car,” Rizwan said.
According to the authorities, the
number of visitors and the quality
of this year’s edition under the
theme ‘Shop the World’, surpassed
the organisers’ and the exhibitors’
expectations alike. The 10day
exhibition, which took place at
the Doha Exhibitions Center,
recorded a huge number of visitors
who came to check out the latest
cultural products on display.

Centre’s two students, Faraz Khan
and Muhammad Aftab Bashir, and
their mentor Gauhar Hameed who
bagged first position in the Robot
Programming and Computing
Contest organised by the Qatar
University recently. Around 70
teams from 55 local, independent
and international schools took part
in the event.
Khanzada appreciated the activities
of the forum and urged the
new executive committee to work
for increasing the number of
forum members. The envoy also
suggested a number of pro-
tomers, who have expressed their
satisfaction of what was showcased
during the fair. Our main aim for
the year was to enhance and
upscale the exhibition and I believe
we have succeeded in doing so.
Visitors appreciated lively entertainment
and the overall presentation.

hard to bring the best quality products
to the exhibition, to ensure
consumer-protection and to assure
customers that they are buying
authentic and high-quality products
that can’t be found everywhere,”

social and technical exchange in
the country and beyond, promote
social and cultural activities and
improve the image of the Pakistani
community in Qatar and liaison
between the members and the
Pakistani embassy in Doha.

She said, “This is my sixth
year to participate in the fair and
I have to say this year’s exhibition
was special. The sales were
good and customers were
showed interest in our products,
which I believe are unique. The
organisers have done a great job
in hosting the exhibition. I am
happy with the outcome.”
