LAMARUYU MONASTERY
the 11 century and
guarded by the
spirits of two great serpents. One of the oldest monasteries in the
region, Lamaruyu is set against a stark landscape making views spell
binding. Overnight in Lamaruyu.
Day 07 Lamayuru - Themisgam ( 40 Kms / 1 Hrs )
This morning, leave for Themisgam. You will visit
the ruins of the fortress before heading to the
Themisgam Monastery. The barren and
remote setting of the monastery
makes this visit an unforgettable
one. Overnight in Themisgam.
Day 08 Themisgam -
Uleytokpo ( 35 Kms / 1 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will leave
for Uleytokpo, en-route you will
visit the Ridzong Monastery and
the Thardot Cheoling Nunnery.
The monastery is very isolated and
the monastic community follows strict
rules and regulations. This Gelugpa (yellow
h a t )
monastery is about
120 years old and contains
beautiful wall paintings.
The nunnery is home to
about 30 nuns. Since the
nunnery is so remote, the
nuns live an austere life.

RIDZONG MONASTERY
Day 09 Uleytokpo - Leh
(75 Kms / 3 Hrs )
This morning after breakfast head back to Leh; en-route you will
visit Alchi. The Alchi Gompa is renowned and celebrated
monastery in Ladakh. Built in the 11th century, the monastery is
famous for its paintings and architecture. On arrival in Leh you will
have the evening at leisure. Overnight in Leh.
Day 10 Leh - Nubra ( 128 Kms / 6 Hrs )
This morning after breakfast, head for the Nubra Valley. This valley
of flowers is perhaps the most inexplicably beautiful place you can
visit. Once a trading route through the Karakoram ranges from
ROAD TO NUBRA VALLEY
Tibet to Turkistan, it
was only recently
opened to tourists.
There is only one road
to Nubra valley: the
road from Leh,
through Khardungla
pass, the world's

motorable road. On arrival in Nubra,
visit the Hunder Monastery. The
monastery has some old frescos
and a statue of the Buddha. It
is also the best place to view
the sunset. Overnight in
Nubra Valley.
Day 11 Nubra - Leh ( 128
Kms / 6 Hrs )

morning
you will head
to Leh with a
packed lunch; en route
you will visit Diskit. This is one of the
larger villages of the region, and is dotted
with apricot plantations. It is famous for its
350-year-old Gompa - the oldest and largest
monastery in the Nubra Valley. It belongs to
the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan
Buddhism. Nearby, there is a 100 foot tall

statue of Maitreya Buddha at the Shyok
River, facing towards Pakistan as a symbol of
world peace. Also visit the picturesque
MAITREYA BUDDHA
NUBRA VALLEY
DISKIT GOMPA
village of Sumur. You will see a
stretch of beautiful sand dunes.
The region is also the only place
in India where you will find the
double humped camel.
Overnight in Leh.
Day 12 Leh / Delhi
Early morning, leave for the
airport to catch your flight for
Delhi. On arrival in Delhi, visit
the Jama Masjid, which is the
largest and perhaps the bestknown
mosque in India. Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan,
and completed in 1656, the courtyard of the mosque can hold about
25,000 worshippers. Also visit India Gate, one of the largest war
memorials in India, designed by Edward Lutyens. Evening at
leisure. After dinner, head to the airport to board your flight to your
onward destination.
