Charging the battery (fig. 62)<br />

Before charging the battery, it is best to remove it from the<br />

motorcycle.<br />

Remove the left-hand side fairing (page 68), unscrew the<br />

bolt (1) and remove the mounting bracket (2). Always<br />

disconnect the black negative terminal (-) first, and then<br />

the red positive terminal (+).<br />

Warning<br />

The battery produces explosive gases: keep it away<br />

from heat sources and flames.<br />

Charge the battery in a well-ventilated area.<br />

Connect the battery charger leads to the battery terminals:<br />

red to the positive terminal (+), black to the negative<br />

terminal (-).<br />

Important<br />

Connect the battery to the charger before switching<br />

on: failure to do so can result in sparking at the battery<br />

terminals, which could ignite the gases inside the cells.<br />

Always connect the red positive terminal (+) first.<br />

Replace the battery in its support (3), then connect the<br />

terminals. Apply some grease to the bolts to improve<br />

conductivity and fasten the bracket (2) with the bolt (1).<br />

Warning<br />

Keep the battery out of the reach of children.<br />

Charge the battery at 0.9 A for 5 to 10 hours.<br />
