giving in 2011–12 From the Head of School, continued continued from page 1 The faculty has also broadened its professional presence locally and nationally, through more than 10 presentations at the Florida Council of Independent Schools conferences (2011 and 2012) and recently a presentation at the 2012 National Council of Teachers of English (ncte) conference. I really cannot say enough about how hard the faculty has worked to ensure that Tampa Preparatory School remains an incredible place for students and families and a school that the entire Alumni nation can be proud of. The recent campus improvements that include the renovations to the Peifer Library and the construction of the new Student Center demonstrate our focus on supporting and improving our students’ experience. Construction at Prep is not about the erection of monuments but it is about answering the essential question of “what is best for students?” Our facilities now and in the future will continue to be a direct extension of the innovation, creativity and advancements in the academic curriculum of the school and the athletic, artistic and experiential needs and advancements necessary to ensure continued programmatic excellence. It is how we honor our students and the donors who historically have supported the school and our families and friends who are generously supporting the school presently. As with most independent educational institutions, tuition alone does not cover the cost of a Tampa Preparatory School Education; generous philanthropy helps the school breathe life into the opportunities we dream for our students. Our ambitions require the continued development of a culture of philanthropy that exemplifies a broad-based community commitment to the students of Prep. We 2 continue to be proud of the fact that 100% of the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff and Administration support the Annual Fund. And while we are pleased with the improvements in our parent participation, a growth in participation from 22% in 2006 to 58% in 2012, we hope the spirit of generosity continues to grow. We also look forward to continued interest and support from our Alumni who represent the awesome dual responsibility of supporting both the past and the future of Prep! On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration of Tampa Preparatory School and the Board of Trustees, we are proud to share this annual report with you and we thank you for your enthusiasm, generosity and steadfast support that makes the wonderful advancement of Tampa Preparatory School possible. We are serious about doing what is best for students. That commitment and focus brings us tremendous joy. Albert Einstein said “He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.” Our eyes are open at Tampa Prep; we are focused and continue to seek to create awe. Dear Friends of Tampa Prep, On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank everyone who contributed to the Annual Fund for the 2011–12 school year. Your generous gifts were a key to the School being able to continue providing an outstanding educational experience to our students. In fact, your support directly helps the School achieve two key elements of its Mission Statement: namely, it provides the additional financial resources which enable Tampa Prep to be a place where our students can “aspire to excellence” and “go beyond.” We are especially proud of the outstanding staff and faculty we have assembled at Tampa Prep. Their daily efforts are what make the school the outstanding institution that it is. Given the important role these professionals play every day in making Tampa Prep so special, it is especially noteworthy that for the past three years 100% of our faculty and staff have supported the Annual Fund. Hence, our dedicated employees annual fund volunteers 2011–12 not only devote their working days to the school, they also dig into their own pockets to provide further support. There can be no stronger statement of their commitment to Tampa Prep, and we should all be inspired by that. I also want to assure you that the Board of Trustees takes very seriously its responsibility to make sure the School’s financial resources are used wisely—from participating in the development of the School’s annual budget, to reviewing interim results as the year progresses, to meeting with the school’s auditor to discuss the audited financial statements. Tampa Prep is fortunate to have an extremely capable senior administrative team that runs the school in a very professional manner. That team and the Trustees share the same goal: to use all of the funds the School receives (tuition, other fees, the Annual Fund, and various other contributions) in a manner which enhances the educational experience of our students, and thus helps the School maintain its leadership position in the We recognize and thank Annual Fund Committee Chair Laurel Fredlake and her dedicated volunteers for their diligent work on behalf of the Tampa Prep mission.
