& Dried Fruit Congress
The XXX World Nut and Dried Fruit
Congress welcomed 820 participants
from 46 countries in Budapest
(Hungary), 20-22 May 2011
Congress attendees had over a dozen
round tables and seminars to choose
from, which range in topics from market
dynamics, to scientific research and regulatory
affairs. Over 60 specialists in the
fields of production, trade, health, nutrition
and food law from all over the world presented
their views on key industry topics.
This year’s program included the
Scientific Seminar “Challenges and Key
Issues Facing the Nut and Dried Industry”,
in which main challenges and issues
facing the nut and dried fruit industry,
such as food safety, contaminants,
pesticides, and agricultural quality standards
were examined. The Symposium
“Nuts and Dried Fruit on Health and Disease”
was presented by researchers belonging
to diverse disciplines that shared
evidence, identified knowledge gaps
and set a global research agenda for
the future. The other sessions consisted
of Round Tables on market dynamics,
new crop estimates and promotional
campaigns for each nut and dried fruit,
including a panel with leaders of major
supermarket chains: Delhaize Belgium
and Tesco Stores Ltd.
In addition to providing a forum for
the industry, the Congress also featured
international companies in the
Exhibition Area which displayed the latest
equipments, innovations and products
in the nut and dried fruit sector.

INC Executive Committee Meeting
Within the frame of the XXX World Nut
and Dried Fruit Congress, the INC Executive
Committee met in the Sofitel
Hotel, on Thursday, May 19th, 2011,
to review the year’s budget and the
strategic plan for actions. The members
of the Executive Committee reviewed
the proposal of new members
of the Board of Directors, Senators,
Observers, and Ambassadors and
the activities of the Congress Committee.
Also the Executive Committee
checked the performances of the subcommittees:
Ambassadors’ Committee;
Editorial and Statistics Committee;
congress Committee; Scientific
and Government Affairs Committee;
and Audit Committee.
The next meeting of the INC Executive
Committee will take place on Saturday,
October 28th, 2011 in Madrid under
the umbrella of the INC Symposium on
Nuts and Health, within the frame of the
11th European Congress of Nutrition.
INC Board of Directors Meeting
The INC Board of Directors meeting
took place on Thursday, May 19th,
2011, at the Sofitel Hotel. The members
of the Board discussed budgetary
and strategic development issues;
reviewed the report of activities
by the secretariat, the Ambassadors
Committee, and the Scientific Committee,
and approved Reus/Barcelona
as the site of the 2013 Congress,
which will celebrate the 30th Anniversary
of the INC and the official
opening of the New INC Home.
The Board of Directors nominated
the members of the Board of Directors,
Senators, Observers, and Ambassadors,
who were ratified afterwards by
the General Assembly.
