Le Touquet is a chic, racy seaside resort nicknamed<br />
« Paris Plage » (Paris-by-the-sea). The resort was built<br />

Etap<strong>le</strong>s Bristish Memorial<br />
The memorial, by sir Edw<strong>in</strong> Lutyens, is situated on the<br />
site of a WWI military camp. 11000 British soldiers<br />
were buried here alongside 655 Germans. Georges V <strong>and</strong><br />
Marshal Douglas Haig laid the memorial <strong>in</strong> 1922. It is<br />
located to the north of Etap<strong>le</strong>s, on the west side of the road<br />
of Boulogne.<br />
Maritime Museum - Etap<strong>le</strong>s<br />
In this for<strong>mer</strong> fish-hall the history <strong>and</strong> traditions of<br />
the fish<strong>in</strong>g-trade are represented: the evolution of<br />

The markets :<br />
In Etap<strong>le</strong>s : On Tuesday <strong>and</strong> Friday morn<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> the<br />
town centre, this colourful market is good for fresh<br />
food <strong>and</strong> local produce. Feel free to w<strong>and</strong>er along the<br />
harbour promenade with its fisherman’s stalls <strong>and</strong> enjoy<br />
freshly caught fish.<br />
In Le Touquet : On Thursday <strong>and</strong> Saturday morn<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />
held <strong>in</strong> a semi-covered market <strong>in</strong> rue de Metz. From mid<br />
May to September, there is also a market on Monday<br />
morn<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
Shopp<strong>in</strong>g Streets :<br />
In Etap<strong>le</strong>s : There is an attractive shopp<strong>in</strong>g area <strong>in</strong> the<br />
town centre.<br />
In Le Touquet : Rue St Jean <strong>and</strong> the streets<br />
perpendicular to this, are the ma<strong>in</strong> shopp<strong>in</strong>g area but<br />
Avenue du Verger also has some <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g shops.<br />
Perard’s fish soup, rue de Metz is def<strong>in</strong>itely a good buy<br />
to take home with a litt<strong>le</strong> jar of “rouil<strong>le</strong>” <strong>and</strong> some<br />

Watch out for “Le Chat B<strong>le</strong>u” <strong>and</strong> “Beussent” chocolate<br />
