DIOCESAN BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES – BARRACKPORE
Introduction and Background:
DBSS Barrackpore is a registered society working on the issues of Livelihood and
Food Security.
With the launch of strategic action plan, we tried once again to frame the issue of
Livelihood and Food Security. In these six months, focus was on proper
allocation of BPL and NREGA
DBSS tried to evolve new roles, responsibilities organizational structure and new
way of functioning based on their staff appraisal and the capacity building. For
example the coordinator is more involved in vision building of the organization
and the Programme Organizer who is now called the issue facilitator is more
involved in planning and implementing the issues. The community enablers
perform multiple roles in community organizing and are responsible as resource
for an issue.

During this period the DBSS has taken up 19 new villages since March 2006, all
the villages have been surveyed using PRA techniques )
The traditional village development committees have been changed into Gram
Unnayan Committee and the Cluster committee has been changed to Branch
Committee with new responsibilities
In this 6 month DBSS has withdrawn from 16 villages. The reasons of
withdrawl are
1. Communication disturbance
2. Villagers are not interested
3. Lot of Charitable NGO is working there.
4. Political threat.
5. Increase in leadership, the villages’re on developing
