Dam Operations, Maintenance Management
And Safety, Masterclass 2013
Due to the fact that frequent catastrophic consequences of dam failures are unacceptable, it is an important essential
need for trained personnel in the areas of safety and maintenance. Many dams in Africa were designed and built
decades ago and with time, these structures age and the level of safety becomes more complicated to assess,
especially where original design and construction details are not known.
In addition, foundation and dam degradation occurs for various reasons and many continue to worsen. To add to this,
safety and design standards have changed over the years and many of these aging structures must be upgraded to
meet current international standards. Research is required for the development and evaluation of new diagnostic
monitoring tools and techniques in order to assess the stability and safety of existing dams.
It is therefore necessary to do constant analysis and repair due to aging infrastructure and poor operational
performance. In this regard, municipalities, government water officials, technical engineers and environmental
experts are constantly working hard to strengthen maintenance, regularly rehabilitating dams, and improving dam
management and safety. New repair models, materials and techniques can reduce the cost of required dam safety
improvements.
This seminar provides delegates with comprehensive instruction in dam safety inspection and evaluation. Although
references will be made to organisational procedures and units of reclamation, the principles, concepts, and
procedures are readily adaptable to any organization conducting a regulatory or in-house dam safety program for
existing dams.
This interactive Masterclass will:
• Assist the development of awareness and understanding of the importance of monitoring activities to dam owners,
third parties and for dam safety compliance.
• Provide a platform for industry officials to share success stories of dam rehabilitation in and around Africa.
Dam Operations ,Maintenance Management and Safety Masterclass aims to provide a platform for leading
industry officials to share success stories of successfully designing and rehabilitating dams throughout the
continent and beyond.
Dear Delegate
Our successful Dam Operations Management & Rehabilitation 2012 Masterclass was well received, and due to
positive feedback and a high demand from our delegates, we have decided to host this Masterclass again. This year
we look at all the aspects of design, construction, maintenance, and management in this sector.
The event emphasizes the development of awareness and understanding of the importance of Inspection, monitoring
and evaluations to dam owners, third parties and for dam safety compliance. It encourages continuous collaboration
as well as local skills transfer that will set the tone for an African event where you will be able to benchmark success
in operations, rehabilitation and maintenance of your dams.
Attend this event and Gain insights in dealing with risks associated with management of dams
Don’t miss out!!
