While the scenery outside is uniquely spectacular,
the rooms inside the Hotel Misani
are unique in themselves. 12 of the 32
rooms are so-called “style rooms” and
offer the unprecedented rapture of
sleeping in the ambience of the Australian
outback, or the charmed Arabia Deserta
- all while snow covered mountain peaks
are luminescent in the moonlight outside
the window! But the novel ideas of proprietors
Jürg Mettler and Peter Dietiker
also extend to the more basic rooms:
refraining from the usual hotel room
riffraff, the room decor is intentionally
streamlined, while each guest is given the
opportunity to choose his preference of
amenities from a vast variety available at
reception area. Definitely unique.
A modern hotel feeling -
for a new generation.
T hink
of a newly renovated hotel with all the basic comforts - perch
it nestled in the Swiss Alps surrounded by a spectacular landscape of
majestic peaks, shimmering mountain lakes, and idyllic dense forests -
then add your own personal wishes, or simply individual whims - and
voilà: your unique holiday at the Hotel Misani in Celerina.
The Engadine Valley, which is also home to St. Moritz, has been a mecca for the lofty
cognoscente set for literally centuries. No wonder, since this is the world of superlatives,
whether critiquing its unparalleled natural beauty, or its cosmopolitan air of international
clientele. Hotelerie par excellence is a tradition here, but the Misani has dusted off the
legends and created a new concept for a new generation: “A modern hotel feeling”. Their
aim is to deliver a decidedly different holiday experience accentuated by the individual
guest’s desires. Thanks to a generous portion of innovative creativity and a flair for
personal attentiveness, they succeed. These are hotel managers who thrive in providing
the guest with exactly what he wants, be it a room furnished with a stereo or video player,
satin sheets or a hunting trophy on the wall; a lavish breakfast for six or a romantic
evening program for two, or simply a place to go where the feel is right. For a holiday
with that choice contemporary character tailored exactly to your expectations, think Misani.
Walking into the Misani’s Ustaria restaurant
is like entering a spacious Italian
palazzo that has the coziness of a woodpaneled
Engadine “Stube”. In addition to a
continental breakfast with flair (cappuccino
and brioche), one can also order up a full
American-style breakfast, granola fare, or
even caviar and champagne throughout
the morning and into the afternoon,
breaking through all time zones, as well as
border control restraints. In the evening,
the cook continues to play freely with
local specialties and Italian fare created
from market-fresh ingredients, with a dash
of deviation. The local crowd and the
beautiful people gather any time during
the day and into the night to nibble on
panini, bruschette, tramezzini and other
such southern comfort food.

Designer decadence in glass, plaster of
Paris, wood and metal, molding a yet to
be coined Bistro 2000 style. Light and
vivid, with an inviting classical elegance
whose warmth is derived from the body
heat of the serene clientele. The usual
restaurant fare would be completely out
of place here, whereas the house
‘global cuisine’ featuring tandoori chicken,
couscous dishes, and savory bouillabaisse
is entirely fitting this distinctively different
dining experience.
Tucked away on a lower floor under
arched ceilings which at one time housed
a wine dealership, is now the “Bodega”:
a place to meet for finger-licking good
tapas and other Spanish edibles,
accompanied, of course, by a glass of
aged fine wine.
At the Misani, not only the personal
service and individual setting at the hotel
revolves around the guest, but one also
finds himself at the center of the entire
holiday scene: the night life, shoppes,
cultural happenings, and the sports events
as well as sports activities in nearby
notoriously ritzy St. Moritz; or at the focal
point of the tranquil surroundings of the
exquisite alpine landscape. Pick your
pleasure, for a made-to measure haute
couture holiday. For those who have
“been there, done that”
- but nothing like this.
