Ford may head Down Under for the next-gen Falcon platform to bring us a new model. OUR OPINION Affordable, spacious, comfy old-style Detroit sedan. FIVE-HUNDRED HIGHLIGHTS Only SEL and Limited trims. Side airbags and Safety Canopy standard. Fwd models get a six-speed automatic. BASE PRICE $23,730 WHAT’S NEXT A mild freshening for next year with a new 3.5-liter V6. OUR OPINION Better but with some interior ergonomic peculiarities. EXPLORER SPORT TRAC HIGHLIGHTS Returns after a year’s layoff with a new 292-hp V8 and a cleaner V6. Has a composite bed, two-tier storage, stiffer frame and rear independent suspension. BASE PRICE $24,940 WHAT’S NEXT Do not expect anything major for a few years.
