With its latest member of the frame<br />
grabber family – the p3i_CL – ELTEC<br />
Elektronik AG now supports the <strong>Camera</strong><br />
<strong>Link</strong> Standard. The p3i_CL thus enables<br />
the simple connection of digital imageprocessing<br />
cameras to the PCI Bus. This<br />
provi<strong>de</strong>s a high data rate that is now<br />
far easier to use than was possible with<br />
existing interfaces.<br />
The p3i_CL has a <strong>Camera</strong> <strong>Link</strong> interface<br />
that can transmit up to three parallel<br />
byte data flows across one connection.<br />
A single <strong>Camera</strong> <strong>Link</strong> cable can<br />
accordingly transmit three monochrome<br />
or one RGB signal to the frame<br />
grabber. <strong>Camera</strong> <strong>Link</strong> standardises and<br />
simplifies the connection of the most<br />
varies digital cameras to the frame<br />
grabber.<br />
The image-processing specialists from<br />
Mainz not only provi<strong>de</strong> this interface <strong>for</strong><br />
Windows and various other real-time<br />
systems, but especially <strong>for</strong> <strong>Linux</strong> – thus<br />
extending their successful <strong>Linux</strong><br />
initiative.<br />
The new frame grabber thus takes into<br />
account the headway <strong>Linux</strong> is making in<br />
the world of embed<strong>de</strong>d computers,<br />
including of course image-processing<br />
computers. As well as the actual driver,<br />
the <strong>Linux</strong> software inclu<strong>de</strong>s additional<br />
opportunities to configure the camera,<br />
to display live and other images, and<br />
image management so that the image<br />
data can be accessed efficiently. This<br />
enables easy customisation <strong>for</strong> various<br />
image-processing libraries.<br />
