Allocation<br />
1. Bed the pit in a 100mm min. layer of stabilised sand or stabilised fine<br />
crushed rock (20:1). Particle size shall not exceed 5mm.<br />
2. Ensure the level of the foundation will leave the top edge of the pit flush<br />
with the finished surface after installation.<br />
BACKFILL<br />
1. Backfill material shall be a granular material (not clay) suitable for<br />
compaction.<br />
2. Material to be compacted using a mechanical rammer. Care to be taken to<br />
ensure no distortion to pit.<br />
3. Cable bearers and covers must be installed prior to backfilling.<br />
<strong>FIBRE</strong> <strong>OPTIC</strong> CABLE<br />
1. A 12 metre length of each cable shall be left coiled in the pit for jointing.<br />
2. Cable left coiled in a pit shall be in a 500mm minimum diameter loop.<br />
3. In a through pit with no cable joints, leave 24 metres of cable coiled in the pit.<br />

Cable warning signs shall be used in areas remote<br />
from Electricity Footpath Allocation. e.g. parkland,<br />
carparks, easements.<br />
Signs shall be located to clearly identify the cable route.<br />
Locate a sign at each change of direction and at<br />
100m maximum centres, provided signs are visible,<br />
one to the next.<br />
Warning signs may be mounted directly on walls<br />
where allowable.<br />
NOTES:<br />
1. Concrete not included in material.<br />
Minimum concrete volume = 0.016m<br />
2. Concrete shall be grade N20.<br />
3. To prevent damage to sign when tightening<br />
bolts and nuts, compress flanges of grommets<br />
to half their normal thickness only.<br />
4. After fixing sign to post, deform thread of bolt<br />
to prevent removal of nut by vandals.<br />
