INTERBASE
MERV PARR
Ohakea hosted Interbase (IB) Cricket at Victoria
Park, Wanganui.
The fi rst women’s game was dominated by
the bowlers, with OH 89, C. Hausman 3/13 &
D. White 4/12. In reply AK lost 6 wickets, with
G. Cosford 3/17 & K. Peacock 2/13.
Next game, Palmerston Nth Girls High School
(PNGHS) made a mammoth 348/9 despite
Cosford 4/65 & A. Hockenhull 3/71. S. Macks,
22, was the only resistance, with OH all out
for 69.
AK, with A. Walding, 87, leading the way
made 147, but PNGHS still had a comfortable
7 wicket win.
Good bowling by OH, T. Harrison 3/20 & K.
Waite 2/29 limited AK to 169, with Walding,
60, being the batting highlight. She then capped
off an outstanding tournament with 3/6, which
with S. Van Deventer 3/18 & T. Lauchlan 2/21
ensured a 73 run victory and the McCombie
Cup (IB winners).
First round of the men’s competition saw
AK victorious by six wickets over WB, 119, T.
Beilby 2/11 & D. Pugh 4/21. H. Madsen, 106,
& G. Burnnand, 40, coupled with good support
by the other batsmen meant an imposing OH
275. T. Chambers 6/7 threatened WN with
the lowest every IB score (27 by OH) but M.
Stevens, 46*, saved this embarrassment with
WN being all out 89.
Day 2 commenced with OH compiling 304
for 4, with Madsen’s free flowing strokes
ending in another century, M. Beaven, 74,
and D. Grant 34*. Despite a valiant captain’s
knock by D. Hamilton, 80*, WB were all out for
129. WN again struggled with the bat making
88, K. Stratford 3/16, B. Brown 2/5 & Beilby
2/15, which AK knocked off for the loss of
3 wickets.
OH with a comprehensive bowling display,
B. Cunningham 4/9, & 2 wickets each to G.
Schofi eld, M. Beaven & S. Hunter, restricted AK
to 89, which set up a 7 wicket victory.
OH 06-0040-08
OH 06-0040-06
With WB/WN game having no effect on the
fi nals, 20/20 was pioneered with 2 games.
First game saw WN, 123, holding on for 11 run
victory, but D. Hamilton, with a brilliant 104,
ensured a reversal with a 41 run victory.
Having driven over to Wanganui, which was
now a lake, then back over to P.North, the
fi nal was reduced to 40 overs. OH winning its
fourth toss in a row decided to bat fi rst, but
not having batted much past the top order
the loss/retirement of early wickets meant a
few early jitters. Grant, 70, and G. Burnnand,
71, weathered the storm before exploding
with 100 run partnership. N. Hodges, with
quality death bowling of 4-35 restricted OH
to 210/9.
AK, with tight OH bowling, Hunter with good
movement 4/27, and sharp catching, were
always behind the eight ball before being
all out for 124; thus OH being the winners of
Wilson Cup (IB winners).
In the plate game M. Parr 61* (runs not
age) helped WN to 148, with T. Alexander
3/37 & C. Lindsay 4/27. Despite G. Robati
3/41, P. Richardson, a replica of his Black Cap
namesake (leftarm spinner now opener), 45,
led WB to a 3 wicket win.
