Rapid Sequence Induction<br />

The reflux <strong>of</strong> gastric contents from the stomach into the distal airways via the<br />

glottis is a universal concern at all stages <strong>of</strong> anesthetic care. Fasting prior to<br />

elective surgery is the main intervention that guards against pulmonary aspiration.<br />

Risk factors for pulmonary aspiration may include:<br />
