To make a choice between our rm (Regular Maintenance), lm (Low Maintenance)<br />

and Zm (Zero Maintenance) products, there are a number of important parameters<br />

that must be carefully considered:<br />

Application: the more a battery is cycled, the greater the need for<br />

maintenance. You can reduce these costs – by as much as a factor of 7 – by<br />

using lm technology instead of rm.<br />

Traditional or maintenance-free: depending upon the environment<br />

where the battery is used, a battery with gelled electrolyte may be a wise<br />

choice. Sectors that come to mind include the food distribution chain and<br />

medical and chemical products.<br />

Budget: the graphs can help you select the battery that meets your<br />

expectations in respect of battery life expectancy. In this way you choose<br />

the best investment for your needs.<br />

Discharge Depth accorDing to iec254-1<br />

To estimate the discharge depth, simply compare the capacity of the<br />

machine with the machine’s expected application. Example: for a street<br />

cleaning machine with a capacity of 2000m and a car park covering of<br />

1000m2, the discharge depth is 50%.<br />

lm: When a battery is fully discharged and recharged each day,<br />

the required maintenance can be quite intensive. In that case,<br />

choose lm (Low Maintenance) because these <strong>cells</strong> are designed<br />

for 70 cycles between each maintenance routine. Thanks to a<br />

special charger, which features a Low Maintenance charging profile<br />

and impulse technology, good distribution of the electrolyte is<br />

assured.<br />

We give preference to lm technology as opposed to acid<br />

circulation, because its advantages are retained while the<br />

disadvantages are avoided.<br />

Zm: Zm stands for Zero Maintenance, i.e. completely maintenance-free. This saves up to 30% in labour costs. Expensive charging areas are<br />

not needed because these <strong>cells</strong> produce practically no gas at all. A limited range of Zm <strong>cells</strong> is available according to din and bs standards,<br />

with capacities from 110 to 1200Ah ensuring maximum capacity for your specific applications.<br />

Optionally suitable for use in Ex hazard areas where stringent safety requirements apply.<br />

b.m.s. (battery management system):<br />

This option consists of a module which is fitted on the battery<br />

and registers its use, which makes it easier for our Service<br />

Department to understand the cause of a failure and help you<br />

with advice. This unit allows us to offer our customers a fair<br />

and honest warranty over a longer period. The b.m.s. option<br />

is fitted as standard on all batteries in the logistics sector.<br />

Acid circulation is an option that consists of a special charger<br />

with an air pump and hoses that supply air at the bottom of<br />

each cell. During the charging process, air is pumped into the<br />

<strong>cells</strong> in order to achieve forced circulation of the electrolyte,<br />

so that the water and acid are properly mixed again. Extensive<br />

charging, which shortens the life of the battery and increases<br />

water consumption, is therefore avoided. While emrol<br />

supporting acid circulation and acknowledging its benefits for<br />

various customers, preference is nonetheless given to lm<br />

technology because of its quality, simplicity and lower cost.<br />
