Colonels to start 2013 football season
with tough road game at Oregon
The Nicholls State University
football program announced
its 2013 schedule
on Wednesday, February
20 th , which will pit the
Colonels against three FBS
programs for the second
straight year including national-title
contender Oregon
and in-state rival
Louisiana-Lafayette, along
with five home games at
John L. Guidry Stadium.
“I feel like our 2013
schedule will be the most
challenging scheduled in
Nicholls football history,”
said Nicholls head football
coach Charlie Stubbs, who
is entering his fourth year
at the helm of the Colonel
program. “All three of our
FBS opponents are excellent
programs, so it will be
a great opportunity to compete
and improve as we’ll
play in tough environments
that will prepare us for the
Southland Conference.”
The Colonels will open
the 2013 campaign with
their second consecutive
trip to the Pacific Northwest,
taking on the Fiesta
Bowl Champion Oregon
Ducks on Aug. 31. The
Ducks are coming off a 12-
1 season as they finished
the season ranked No. 2 in
the nation in both Top 25
polls.
“Oregon will be the
toughest team that we’ve
played in program history,”
Coach Stubbs said. “They
will most likely be ranked
No. 1 or No. 2 in the nation,
so we know it’s a huge challenge.”
Following the Oregon
game, Nicholls will play two
familiar foes – Western
Michigan (Sept. 7) and
Louisiana-Lafayette (Sept.
14). The meeting with Western
Michigan will be the
third in the last four years,
while the Colonels will bat-

second time since 2011.
“Kalamazoo has been a
great atmosphere the last
couple times that we have
been there. Even with a
new coaching staff, it will
be a great opportunity to
play a team from the Mid-
American Conference”
Stubbs said. “And
Louisiana-Lafayette, they
are an excellent program
that’s headed in the right
direction. We played them
tooth-and-nail two years
ago and the environment
was electric. It’s a perfect
opportunity for our fans
and alumni to be able to
support the Colonels on the
road.”
Before heading into
Southland Conference play,
Nicholls will make their
Guidry Stadium debut on
Sept. 21 against Langston,
followed by another home
game versus Arkansas Tech
(Sept. 28). Langston, a
NAIA school, went 6-4 last
season while Arkansas
Tech, a NCAA Division-II
program, posted a 5-6
record in 2012.
After a bye week, the
Colonels host Northwestern
State on Oct. 12 for their
SLC opener. For the rest of
the month, Nicholls will
play at Stephen F. Austin
(Oct. 19) before taking on
McNeese State (Oct. 26) in
Thibodaux.
In November, Nicholls
will have consecutive games
in Texas with contests at
Lamar (Nov. 2) and back-toback
FCS national runnerup
Sam Houston State
(Nov. 9). The Colonels will
play their final home game
on Nov. 16 against Central
Arkansas before the Thursday-night
season-finale at
Southeastern La. (Nov. 21)
in the River Bell Classic.
Nicholls will begin its
spring schedule on April 9.

Sheriff’s Office offers RAD course
A Rape Aggression Defense
(R.A.D.) course has
been scheduled for March
19-21 at the Recreation
Building at 151 Peltier Park
Drive in Thibodaux. This
self-defense course is designed
exclusively for
women and will take place
over the course of the three
evenings. The class will
begin at 6 p.m. and end
around 9:30 p.m. each
night.
Participants must attend
all three nights.
Course instruction will be
provided by certified R.A.D.
instructors from the
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s
Office.
There is a $10 fee
charged to cover the expense
of the course materials.
The registration
deadline is 11 a.m. on Monday,
March 18, which is the
day prior to the start of the
course.
