The Legacy of Benny Binion 

The Binion Family are pleased a portion of the proceeds 

from this sale go to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in which 

Benny Binion was honored by being inducted in 1988 in 

the company of so many friends, heroes and rodeo greats 

(including Granddaughter Mindy’s husband Clint Johnson, 

World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, 

inducted in 1992). 

The Binion Family are proud to sponsor the 2012 Benny Binion’s 

World Famous Bucking Horse and Bull Sale in honor of Benny 

Binion. 

Hopefully the Legacy of Benny Binion will live on in Las Vegas 

and in the world of rodeo, as he was instrumental in bringing the 

National Finals Rodeo to Las Vegas in 1985. With the move came 

a large increase in the cowboy’s purse and fees paid to the stock 

contractors for bucking horses and bulls. 

Not only was this a boost to Benny’s cowboy friends, but a boost to 

Las Vegas, as the WNFR has become one of the top tickets in sports 

and one of Las Vegas most prestigious and lucrative two weeks of 

the year.

The Bucking Stock Sale Management acts only as an Agent. All responsibilities and guarantees are between 

Buyer and Seller. 

All livestock is sold as is. Riding Horses are available for inspection on Wednesday, December 5th from 3 p.m. to 

5 p.m. at Horseman’s Park. Sellers or an authorized representative are required to be present during this time. 

Buyers and Spectators are cautioned to be careful while on the premises and particularly while livestock is being 

bucked in the arena. The Management cannot be responsible for any accidents. 

BUYERS – Attention Canadian Buyers – We will accept Canadian checks only if the check is payable in U.S. 

funds. 

Bad Checks – A fee of $50 will be charged for any bad check. All future purchases by the buyer will be cash, 

cashiers check or money order. 

All buyer’s must pay for ALL stock purchased under their bidder number. Absolutely NO items will be transferred 

to another number when paying. 

All livestock must be paid for by 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th. All payments are to be made to the 

auction clerk located in the auction facility. 

We do NOT accept debit or credit cards. 

Buyers pay $6.00 per head per day for feed for stock beginning Sunday, December 9, 2012. Prepayment is 

required at settlement. 

Immediately after the Livestock is sold, it will be the sole risk and responsibility of the Buyer thereof, but possession 

of the Livestock cannot be obtained until payment in full has been made to the Cashier. Load In and Load Out 

occurs in daylight hours only, starting on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Horseman’s Park in Las Vegas. 

SELLERS - All checks to pay out sale proceeds to the seller will only be issued to the name(s) listed in the 

catalog - No split or revised names will be made on checks. 

Sellers will be charged a processing and promotional fee of $150 per consigned animal. 

Sellers checks will be mailed by Friday, December 14th. For Canadian sellers electronic payment is available if 

requested and if banking information is provided timely with your consignment form. 

If an original livestock consignment is replaced by different livestock, a $75 per head change fee will be charged 

to the seller. Absolutely NO changes can be made to the consigned livestock beginning two weeks prior to the 

final day of livestock check in. 

All sellers are responsible for buying back your own livestock. The auction does NOT protect the selling price of 

your livestock. All livestock is sold to the highest registered bidder. 

Health requirements as of 5-1-12 – subject to change – All livestock must have the following 

health paperwork when it is checked in:

About 

1. Top 5 Permit Holders from each roughstock event, based on total money won at the end of the 2012 season, which 

concludes on September 30, 2012, will be invited to compete at the Benny Binion’s World Famous Bucking Horse & 

Bull Sale in Las Vegas, NV on December 6 and 8, 2012. 

2. If any of the top 5 do not accept or respond by designated deadline, go to #6, #7, #8, etc. until 5 permit holders in 

each roughstock event are confirmed. 

3. Event ground rules apply. All permits will be accepted first, based on 2012 money won. This includes any contestant 

who was a permit member for any part of the 2012 rodeo season. 

4. Entry fees for the invited PRCA Roughstock Permit Holder of the Year Challenge competitors will be paid by the Sale. 

5. Invited competitors will enter through Procom as outlined in the approval listing in the Business Journal, no exceptions 

will be made. You must be eligible with the PRCA. 

6. Each invited competitor will have two-head. If there is not enough livestock consigned for the sale, a bonus animal 

will be assigned and the ride will not be official, only for points for the Permit Holder of the Year Challenge. 

7. In order to be eligible for the Permit Holder of the Year prizes, invited competitors must compete in all go-rounds 

and bonus rides (see #5). 

8. Winner will be individual with most combined points from all go-rounds at Sale in case of a tie, single highest 

marked score from any go-round. If there is still a tie, go back to original permit standings, if the tie continues, there 

will be a coin toss.

All athletes feel pain from time to time. 

But what separates an athlete from a superstar is the ability to shake off that pain and 

go on- a feat easier said than done. 

J. Pat Evans, M.D. and Don Andrews founded the Justin Sportsmedicine Program in 

1981. Since that time, the program has treated more than 95,000 rodeo athletes, and 

 

Sportsmedicine staff, commonly referred to as the Justin Heelers, will provide medical 

services at more than 145 professional rodeos including the champion-crowning 

National Finals Rodeo and Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo. 

And, unlike most professional sports, if a rodeo athlete doesn’t compete, he has no chance of 

winning and, subsequently, no chance of getting paid. This situation makes the Justin Sportsmedicine Team a 

necessity rather than a mere convenience for today’s rodeo athlete. 

Cowboys count on the Justin Heelers’ advice on how to stretch before competition, how to effectively apply athletic 

tape or protective gear and how to treat those nagging minor injuries that may affect one’s performance. 

Many injuries are treated in one of two fully equipped mobile sports medicine units owned and staffed by the 

Justin Sportsmedicine Team: The units, which annually log thousands of miles traveling from rodeo to rodeo, work 

closely with local medical centers and emergency medical crews to ensure rodeo athletes the best care possible. 

Additionally, the Justin Sportsmedicine Team has a permanent facility at the Lazy E Arena, Guthrie, Oklahoma and 

a second facility in Mesquite, Texas. 

But the program reaches far beyond its permanent facilities and mobile units. Thanks to North American Sports 

Medicine Referral System, which links doctors and specialists from around the country, rodeo athletes can receive 

quality medical care at any one of the nearly 750 professional rodeos they may attend. 

They have already pre-established in that town local sports medicine specialists and hospitals, a system on hand 

that will help the cowboy as long as he needs it for whatever he needs. It’s kind of ‘one-stop shopping’ for the 

cowboys’ medical needs. Whatever happens, they’ll have the best medical attention possible.

Irene Singer: ‘A heart for the betterment of rodeo’ by Anne Christensen 

Here you sit at the South Point arena, relaxed and warm, watching 

some mighty nice young bucking stock being tried out by some mighty 

nice young riders. Rodeo secretary Irene Singer would like you to know: 

It wasn’t always this comfortable. And she should know, having worked 

the Bucking Sale for 15 years. 

“I’d get to the trailer outside the omas & Mack at about 5:30 a.m., 

and there would already be 50 or 60 young cowboys out there waiting 

in the parking lot, wrapped in hotel blankets and sheets, shivering,” 

she remembers. “In the trailer, we’d still be wearing gloves as we started 

checking them in. en I would go into the coliseum by 9:30 or 10 and 

start getting the scores off the judges’ sheets for the first section of bulls.” 

Focusing on logistics comes naturally to Singer, a long-time PRCA 

secretary. She cites the biggest change to the Bucking Stock Sale as its 

move to the South Point arena, where she has the opportunity to check 

in at least half the cowboys the night before, making for an easier start to 

the Sale itself. 

John Barnes, chairman of the sale committee, remembers Singer as a 

constant presence through those 15 years. 

“Back then, they did it the old way – no PROCOM – and Irene’s 

kept that work ethic all the way through,” he says. “She was the first one 

here in the morning, handled all the contestant fees by 7 a.m., then timed 

part of the event, and afterward, she figured the money to pay it off. She 

was a volunteer back then, and she knew all the money raised at the Sale 

went to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.” 

But Singer doesn’t exactly see herself as the hero at the Sale. It’s just 

where she wants to be. 

“I was already out in Las Vegas for Convention, so in 1993 I asked 

(then-secretary) Norma Dorenkamp if she needed any help with the Sale. 

I liked working with Bob and Donita (Barnes) and their son John, who 

handled all the stock sales, and getting to know the people who worked 

the auction back in the omas & Mack days, like John and Lisa Davis 

and Jim Korkow, and every one of the volunteers who are involved with 

it now at the South Point.” 

Just two years later, she became the Bucking Stock Sale’s secretary 

herself, and she’s has handled business every year the Sale’s been held since 

then. 

“People like Irene Singer are part of what make rodeo feel like a small 

town,” says Barnes. “I realize how much work she does, and how much 

she helps newcomers and permit holders. She has a real heart for the 

betterment of the rodeo business, and that can only help the PRCA.”
