QuickBooks are easy-to-use computer accounting systems for small business. Family Health Centers to bid farewell to a long time provider. On September 5th Ruth Raison, Certified Nurse Practitioner, will hang up her stethoscope for the last time. Ruth came to work for the CAC Family Health Centers in March 1995 after completing her Master’s in Nursing at Marshall University. Ruth has been a valued employee to CAC, but more than that, she has been a kind and compassionate provider of medical care to the folks of southern Ohio. Ruth plans on spending time with her family and working with her horses. Everyone at the Family Health Centers would like to wish Ruth good-luck, health and happiness as she ventures in retirement. We’ll Miss You! New Dentist at the Family Health Center - Piketon Site The CAC Family Health Centers would like to welcome Dr. Young Lee, DDS to its dental team. Dr. Lee graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry this past April. Dr. Lee is a general dentist and can see patients of all ages. New Nurse Practitioner at the Waverly Site The CAC Family Health Centers would like to welcome Thomas Seeley, Certified Nurse Practitioner to the medical staff at Waverly. Thomas is originally from Waverly and is known as “TJ.” TJ has been an RN since 1996 and recently graduated from the Wright State University College of Nursing with his MSN. TJ is certified as a “Family Nurse Practitioner” and can see patients of all ages. Submitted by Lynn Holland
Page 3 CAC OF PIKE COUNTY Keeping Kids healthy during the start of School With school starting and families on the go, it is hard to get a healthy meal for the entire family. One way to start off good is to rise and dine together. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so why not spend it with your family. Research shows that kids that eat breakfast are less overweight and do better in school than those who don’t eat breakfast. You do not have to fix a full course meal for the morning meal, something easy but healthy. Complex carbohydrates is one of the beneficial part of your breakfast because they produce a long-lasting supply of glucose for the body and brain. So if you don’t have time for the sit down formal breakfast here are some simple meals that are quick, easy, and healthy. *Whole-grain toast topped with reduced-fat cheddar cheese and a cup of fruit *1/2 whole-wheat English muffin with 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese and banana *Cooked oatmeal with applesauce swirled in topped with raisins and chopped almonds and 8 ounces of low-fat yogurt. *Egg and pita sandwich: 1 egg scrambled in 1 teaspoon of olive oil stuffed into whole-wheat pita pocket and topped with salsa *Breakfast parfait: layer 1 cup of low-fat yogurt, 1/2 cup crunchy whole-grain cereal and 1 cup of fresh chopped fruit or whole berries. It may be starting to get cold outside but that doesn’t mean that they can’t stay active. Physical activity not only strengthens muscles, bones and joints, it gives children confidence while having fun. Unlike adults that only need 30 minutes of activity a day, children need 60 minutes of daily activity. Simple games such as hopscotch, tossing a ball back and forth and dancing are great ways for kids to be active. Also don’t force your children to physically active when you are sitting around doing nothing. Parents need to be a role model, a physically active role model. Not sure what kind of activities to do with your child, here are some ideas. *Plan active weekends that include biking, hiking, skating, walking or playing ball. *Offer to join you child in his/her favorite physical activity. *Limit inactive behavior such as television and computer time. If you watch television, during commercials, due marching, jumping jacks or stretching. *Keep TV’s out of children’s rooms. *Give your children gifts that encourage physical activity - sporting equipment, Frisbee, any kind of active games.
