A „Legacy Module“ should make the reception of HD+ in all high quality products possible, which has 

already an CI interface but unsuitable for CI+. Based on extensive technical and legal requirements very 

high safety standard from the TV transmitters must be fulfilled, this requires different programming of the 

module software of each manufacturer. 

Due to this cost-intensive software development there are still no concrete data at availabilities and prices 

for the moment.

That certificate with the GS-indication ensures „examined secutity“ exclusively for products which cor- 

responds to the different high product requirements and the legal requirements regarding the safety of 

products. 

The licensing shall protect the user and third parties from harm, which could happen during the proper use 

or by predictable misapplications. In Europe ensure only the GS and CE markings an specific product safety. 

It is regulated by law, that only a certified inspection may examine the respective product. 

Regular control inspections serve the maintaining licensing. 

We always aim for the high level of quality and the long-life cycle of our SetOne products. 

We define our own requirements by the purchase of the individual components, as well as production and

HD+ is a new program offer in HD quality via satellite. 

In addition to the public transmitters Das Erste HD, ZDF HD and Arte HD as well as the private transmitters Anixe HD

HD+ expands the existing digital program offer via ASTRA aroand the programs RTL HD, VOX HD, Sat.1 HD, ProSieben 

HD and Kabel Eins HD. For this reason you can enjoy a greater program selection. 

The HD+ smartcard is already integrated in each HD+ receiver and offers you the possibility to receive the HD+ channels 

12 months for free and without obligations. 

This period of free use ends automatically. No written notice is necessary.

You have the possibility to acquire a new HD + smartcard for another 12 months in trade.

Glossary 

16:9,4:3 

The aspect ratio of your TV display is normally 16:9 (also described as 1,78:1) or 4:3 

(1,33:1). 16:9-televisions show movies without disruptive blacked out. 

3 D-TV 

Three-dimensional entertainment for each home. To play such contents 3-D-suitable 

television or video projectors are necessary, suitable media players as e.g. BluRay-Player 

for movies or 3D-suitable Set Top Boxes for TV programs. 

5.1-tone 

A 5.1-Box Set comes with six loudspeakers: The Center is located near the television, the 

Stereo-loudspeakers to the left and right, two effect-loudspeakers were placed left and 

right behind the die listening position. „1“ means the subwoofer. 

480i/p, 576 i/p, 720p 1080i/p 

Thess data inform you about how many lines composes a television picture (HDTV) and if 

half pictures („i-“-- interlaced) or full pictures („p“ progressive) are used. 

Astra 

The best known satellite-family in Germany disposes of seven satellites on the orbit position 

19,2° east and is run by the Société Européenne des Satellites (SES) from Luxembourg. 

The most digital television and radio programs in Germany will transmit over the Astra 

satellites and a huge number of foreign television stations. 

Picture-in-picture function 

For watching two programs on one display. 

CI (Common Interface) 

Many satellite-receiver have a special slot, the Common Interface. There are a position for 

a decryption module for the protected programmes from Pay TV channels. You can paste 

the smartcard from your Pay TV provider in this decryption module. 

CI+ 

This is a further development of the Common Interface (CI, s.o.). This CI+ Modul is provided 

e.g. to put in a smartcard for high definition program services oft he new platform 

HD+. The CI+ interface is backward compatible and can be optional operated with modules 

for CI or CI+. 

Cinch (as well as RCA-plug) 

Cinch-connector are used for cable which transmit picture and tone signals. 

Digital Audio Output 

In home theater systems tone signals will transmit digitally (without loss) via optical or 

coaxial outputs. 

DiSEqC 

DiSEqC is an operation to control satellites. It is possible to align a satellite dish (controled 

by an engine) automatically on your favorite satellite. 

DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T, DVB-H 

DVB is described as digital transmitted television (Digital Video Broadcasting). DVB-S is 

receivable via satellite, DVB-C via cable, DVB-T via antenna and for the future DVB-H via 

mobile. DVB-S2 transmits HDTV via satellite. 

Electronic Program Guide (EPG) 

EPG is described as an electronic program guide – a kind of TV magazin in some digital 

receivers (Satellite, DVB-C and DVB-T) as well as DVD–recorders. 

Ethernet (LAN) 

The Ethernet / LAN-technology makes it possible to transfer data within a local computer 

network in which e.g. computer, printers or other products can be integrated. The connection 

of these devices will be transfered via LAN / Ethernet-interface.

Free To Air (= FTA) 

A Set Top Box, only for uncoded and free receivable programs konzipiert, then it is called 

a FTA-receiver. 

FBAS–Video 

FBAS–Video (Composite) means a video connection for a transmission of picture through 

only one line. 

Gigabyte (GB) 

This unit for the storage space, e.g. on a hard disk, corresponds to about one milliard 

bytes or 1000 megabytes (mb). If you take up a one and a half-hour movie in best quality, it 

needs about 6.5 gigabytes of storage space (subject to the image contents). 

H.264 

H.264 is a highly efficient compression procedure for video formats. The actual ISO IEC 

correspondent name of the standard is MPEG-4 / AVC and has a three times higher efficiency 

in comparison to older MPEG-4 / ASP standard, which appears to high resolution 

data, as for example HDTV. This H.264 process reduces the data rate by only a half, what 

accelerates the image format considerably, with the same quality of the videos. 

Hbb TV 

Hbb-Tv as well as „HD text“, concerns a significant extension of the current teletext. 

Extended background information should be offered in future for the current TV program 

by text, picture and video. In addition, it is intended to take direct personal orders with the 

remote control. 

HD+ 

A new sending platform of the satellite operator ASTRA for high resolution contents. The 

reception of these program offers is currently only with special devices possible (status: 

3/31/2010). These receivers has a card reader to insert a smartcard for encoded programs. 

HDCP 

HDCP is a copy protection which will transmit over every HDMI connection (partly also via 

DVI).

Hard Disc Drive‘s (HDD) are hard disks which are already inserted in a device or can be 

also connected externally. These can be used to take up or watch time-shifted programs. It 

exists different hard disk standards as for example SATA or IDE. External hard disks can be 

run by USB or via special eSATA interfaces. 

HDMI 

HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) is a connection for digital saved picture and 

tone signals which can display this information without loss. The transmitted signals 

contain a copy protection.

HDTV 

High definition television (HDTV) is a worldwide TV standard for high resolution television 

and it offers a much better image quality than the former PAL operation. Beside a higher 

picture resolution the widescreen format 16:9 is also given. There are different HDTV standards 

with different resolutions, picture frequencies and picture presentations. 

Minimal requirements for „HD Ready“-display: - HDTV standard 720p 720p (p = „progressives“ 

full picure): 720 x 1.280; 50/60 Hz = 921.600 pixels - HDTV standard 1080i 1.080i (i 

= „interlaced“ half picure): 1.080 x 1.920; 50/60 Hz = more than 2 million pixels - HDTV 

standard 1080p 1.080p (p = „progressives“ full picture): 1.080 x 1920; 50/60 Hz = more than 

2 million pixels 

Hotbird / Eutelsat 

The „Hotbird“-Satellites of the European satellite operator Eutelsat are the important 

satelites for Germany. They are aviable on the position 13° east and transmit huge number 

of foreign radio and television pragrams. This includes free receivable programs and a lot 

of encoded programs.

The jpeg procedure (Joint Photographic Experts Group) can reduce the need of storage 

place for pictures of digital cameras without a loss of their high quality.

Coaxial 

Coaxial kabel is made up of an isolated inner conductor which is enclosed up by a tubular 

outer conductor. They were used for the transmission by picture and tone signals.

Legacy Modul (HD+ over CI) 

These modules should provide in future the reception of HD+ in all high-quality devices 

with CI interface, which are not suitable for CI+ yet. However, to the date of our published 

catalogue there are still no concrete informations to availability and prices of the Legacy 

modules. 

LNB / LNC 

The Low Noise Block Converter is a receiving unit from a satellite dish. It is fixed in the 

focus point of the satellite dish and amplifies or alternatively converts the signals which 

were edited later by the set top box. LNB‘s exists in different models for the connection 

of a (single LNB) or several receivers or multi-switches (Twin-LNB, Quattro-LNB, Quad- 

LNB). 

Megabyte (MB) 

1 megabyte are approx. 1 million bytes. A music title, three minutes long, which is saved in 

the space-saving MP3 format is about 3 megabytes. 

MP3 

MP3 is described as audio format MPEG-1 Layer 3. It is widespread in the Internet. MP3 

Pro is a further development which should still reach satisfactory sound with low data 

rates. 

MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group) 

A standard for the space-saving digital storage (compression) of audio and video files. 

MPEG is used for example, on DVDs (MPEG-2) and video-CDs (MPEG-1) as well as for 

Internet files and programmes of the new high resolution television HDTV (MPEG-4). 

Multi-Switch 

Is needed to operate with several set top boxes at the same time and to receive its signals 

from the LNB. ->LNB 

Network 

On a network devices can exchange data together. Through this network, for example, 

movies can be copied up by a DVD recorder with hard disk to edit this data via PC. 

On Screen-Display (OSD) 

This displays the basic information which are necessary for the users to configure display/ 

monitor or TV settings. 

Optical 

Digital signals can be transmitted electrically by ➔ coaxial cable or visual by a optical 

waveguide. A light-emitting diode configures the signals into flash lights which are sent 

with light-leading fibers in the cable. The most widespread variation is called Toslink 

(S/P-DIF). 

OTA (Over The Air) 

The software of the most set top boxes is further developed and current versions can be 

put on each device. Many devices also dispose of a practical OTA updating and can receive 

updates directly via satellite / antenna. ➔ software update. 

Pay TV 

Most TV and radio programs can be received unencoded and free of charge. Indeed, there 

are also Pay TV providers which offers different programs or whole program packages for 

fees. These Pay TV programs are encoded and can be encrypted only by additional Smart 

Cards and if necessary other accessories. 

Progressive Scan 

Progressive Scan transmits no half pictures (interlaced) but full pictures (full images) in 

contrast to the PAL television picture . Therefore the picture doesn‘t flicker. 

PVR-Function / PVR ready 

PVR means „Personal Video Recorder“ and allows the digital recording of movies. Devices 

with an installed memory, e.g. a hard disk, can save the recorded programs on this device. 

„PVR ready“ makes it possible to connect external storage media via an interface on the 

device. 

RGB 

The RGB connection transmits picture signals separately after the colours Red, green, 

blue. The signals cannot interfere each another. This is the requirement for a high image 

quality. 

RS 232 

RS 232 is a widespread connection for plugs and connectors from the computer engineering 

(serial connection). 

Glossar 

Scart 

Scart is the most common connection for television, video recorder and ➔ DVD player/ 

recorder. It can transmits picture signals (in the formats FBAS, RGB, S-video and YUV), 

audio and control signals. 

Set–Top–Box 

A Set Top Box is a receiver for antenna, cable and satellite signals which cannot receive by 

the television. 

Smart Card 

A Smart Card is the subscription card for payable TV programs which are transmitted 

encoded. This smartcard has a special access key which can compose the „chopped“ 

television signal. 

Software update 

The operating system of a set top box can be updated by software updates. The present 

software will be complemented with a new version, improved or removed. 

S–Video 

S-video-connections transmit brightness- and colour information in separated cable 

harness The image quality is better than with FBAS. Page-video-cable (Hosiden) and two 

Cinch cables are necessary for the separate audio connection. 

Timeshift 

Time Shifted Recording: A function that records the present TV program temporarily to 

play it later from the beginning. 

USB 1.1/2.0 

USB (Universal Serial Bus) is widespread as a computer connection for printers, digital 

cameras, card readers and MP3-players. The standard USB 2.0 is a newer version and can 

transfer data very quickly in comparison to a USB 1.1. 

USB Flash Drive 

These portable storages can be connected by an USB connection and can be used for a 

quick and comfortable data transfer. You can save e.g. photos, music or video files on them 

and use it for all compatible devices. 

USB 

Encryption System 

Pay TV providers encode her programs via different procedures (e.g. Sky uses Nagravision). 

If you liked to see these programs you will need a decryption module. Also DVDs 

and video tapes can have an encryption system which should prevent illegal copies (e.g. 

Macrovision). 

VGA 

VGA-video connection (known from the PC technology) can transmit picture signals by 

computers, satellite receivers or DVD players to video projectors or flat sreens. 

W-LAN (WLAN) 

The Wireless LAN - WLAN - allows the wireless integration of WLAN products into a 

computer network. ➔ Ethernet 

YUV 

By this analogous connection (also Y Pb Pr) a very good image quality can transmitted by 

e.g. DVD player and DVD recorder. YUV transmits separated of each other on one interconnection 

the brightness information and on two interconnections the color information. 

Progressiv Scan or HDTV can be also transmitted via YUV.
