(36) Thursday and Friday ight Banquets The Grand High Priest’s Reception and Banquet was held at the Holiday Inn, Albany, on Thursday evening, the sixth of March, 2008, with 148 Guests, Officers and Companions in attendance. Friday evening, March 1, 2008, the Annual Grand Convocation Banquet was held with 327 Companions and Ladies present. The guests included the following representatives of the youth organizations and special guests: YOUTH ORGAIZATIOS Christopher J. Roberts, State Master Councilor of DeMolay. Hino, Jr. Tonawanda Keystone Chapter No. 71 2004 Walter J. Slodki Zerubbabel Chapter No. 147 *Deceased 2008 Recipient Distinguished Service Bronze Medal Award Ralph H. Rosenthal In 1951, the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons established the Distinguished Service Bronze Medal to be awarded each year to a Royal Arch Mason in each Grand Chapter affiliated with the General Grand Chapter. This Medal is given in recognition of the recipient’s outstanding and meritorious service to Royal Arch Masonry other than that of holding Masonic Office as a Past Grand High Priest or as a Grand Chapter Officer. The medal, which is hung on a red ribbon, is about the size of a silver dollar. On its face are various emblems familiar to Royal Arch Mason. These include a representation of the Ark of the Covenant, surrounded by representations of Aaron’s Rod, a roll containing the Book of the Law, three squares, and a gavel. At the top is a Keystone. These are all surrounded by a circle in which are engraved the words "Distinguished Service Medal 1797". In 1952, Tom Maycock, a member of Americus Chapter No.215, now Americus - Orient Chapter No.138, became New York’s first recipient of the General Grand Chapter Distinguished Service Bronze Medal. Over the years, words used to describe those awarded this honor have been such words as Passion, Integrity, and Dependability. With the approval and recommendation of the Grand High Priest, this year’s recipient embodies these words and so many more. He is a shining example of a Royal Arch Mason. General Grand Chapter Distinguished Service Bronze Medal The first Distinguished Service Bronze Medal was awarded in 1952.
